When I started travelling solo, I had no idea where to start. I'd only travelled with my family, my boyfriend, my friends and some academic institution I was a part of.

Apart from that going solo involved busting so many negative beliefs like :

1. There are predators on the road coming after you.
2. It's unsafe for women to travel alone.
3. Travelling in India is unsafe
4. People are dangerous and you can't trust anyone.

Here are some of the things you can keep in mind as a solo female traveller in India!

1. Always keep your safety and security items close.

These could be a knife or even a pepper spray or even learning self-defense moves. Usually in tough situations it is mental strength that is tested as Shree Krishna says that Confidence is a state of mind and the more damage you go through the stronger you become mentally and emotionally. As women it's also important for us to carry items like Pee Buddy, Pee Safe and Panty Liners, which help in long term travelling.

2. Always share your live location with someone trusted

It's important to keep friends and family in the loop when you're travelling solo so share your location with people that matter.

3. Befriend the right people on the road

It's important to befriend the government officials like police officers and keep the conversation flowing with cab drivers who might be driving you down to far off places.

4. Dress Down

As a woman it's important to wear clothes that don't attract alot of attention while travelling so a simple tee shirt and pant that is comfortable would do the trick!

5. Research the Place in Advance

This is a little too obvious but looking up the place asking other visitors about its safety and security level for women and also ensuring that what they show is what you get is extremely important while travelling solo!

6. Follow your gut instincts and common sense

We all have our inner body compass guiding us and I feel it only strengthens when you travel and start relying on yourself for everything. Your body is always communicating with you it's important for you to listen to it and follow the cues.

7. Have faith in yourself

Come on! Don't be scared to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. The first time I did it I was terrified but the company kept me from melting. The next time I got even more confident and after that I didn't even have to think twice because it was second nature.

Remember your comfort zone keeps getting extended as and when you keep pushing it so take those risks and expand yourself because you only have one life.
