Well, the golden beach is the only destination in Puri, where a person can't resist himself visiting it again and again. Because the scenes in this market are always happening, cannot be missed, seems to be new every single day. The tourists and travelers from every nook and corner of India and the world can be seen here, which portrays the popularity of this most happening beach of the state of Odisha.
Mornings are great on most of the beaches. And the oceans are the best places in the world to witness sunrises and sunsets every day. They are just naturally scenic and gorgeous enough. It's the same with night times too, especially on the full moon days. But the shores aren't the same every single night at any beach. In that case, Golden beach is exceptional, because the night scene here is always happening with people roaming here and there on the well-lit beach road every single night.
My sister and I, we planned for a beach vacation to Puri for the New year's eve holidays. As it was the most happening times, we have encountered thousands of people visiting this gorgeous golden beach day and nights. We got too much content and fun of course. We thought the days were too good to miss, but the nights have proven us wrong by delivering that they were better than days. We had to accept the fact, after witnessing the whole night scenes of Puri's Golden beach.
We spent our whole night times on the Golden beach on the two nights of New Year's eve. Trust me, those were one of the best nights spent on the shores of the beach by roaming, shopping, eating, exploring, playing and just sitting on the shore viewing the crescent and the moonlight on the waves of the Golden beach. It was spectacular.
The night market on the shore of the beach and either side of the beach footpath on the beach road is a whole lot of stuff, you name it and you get it. There are too many vendors spread from starting off the beach till the end of the Swargadwara beach road. Food including street food, seafood, and all the fast-food stalls are available. Many vendors sell souvenir items, clothes, bags, shells, various articles, brass, steel, copper items, toys, and many more.
The Odisha arts and craft stores must be visited to appreciate the difficult yet interesting carvings, sculptures, crafts. When it comes to clothing, you must go for shopping in these handloom stores where you can find wide varieties of handloom Odisha print saris, shawls, scarves, frocks, dhotis, kurtas, kids wear and all kinds of clothing with Odisha art prints. These prints, mostly include tribal art, Lord Jagannath Swamy symbols and Odisha state art prints and dyes.
The colors are flashy enough and the prints are ethnic and broad enough. We couldn't resist ourselves from shopping the Odisha state art, crafts and sculptures of gods and some tribal art clothing. You can find rock sculpted crafts of the Konark Sun temple, Lord Jagannath Swamy Mandir and too many Hindu Idols which are beautifully carved at the most affordable prices. These pieces must be bought by any visitor to encourage the art and architecture of Odisha, which is truly commendable and splendid.
Food is the most happening thing in Puri. You can fill your tummy with having just 100 rupees in your hand. But to explore all kinds of food, you must spend a bit more to test your taste buds. As the market is near the beach or seashore, the fishermen catch the fish directly from the sea, then and there, they sell to the vendors who have live kitchen seafood stalls on the beach. This whole scene is worth watching. You may find at least around 100 seafood, live kitchen stalls on the beach and the beach footpaths and on the beach road too. You can have various varieties of fish, crabs, prawns and other shellfish. They are truly delicious and you cannot resist them. If you visit the golden beach in the night times, you must taste seafood from these live kitchen stalls. Starting from the range of 100 to 500 rupees, you can taste the best, fish with a hot and sour chili sauce.
Next, come these real cozy Pastry stores that are popping up in a few happening places in Puri. Mio Amore is also there on the beach road of Puri. Trust me, you get the cheapest and best-baked food and pastries are so cheap that you can eat three full chocolate pastries for just a hundred rupees. The food here is good and so cheap, you shouldn't miss the opportunity of grabbing some delicious pastries. As the cakes are must celebrate the New year's arrival, we had two from this little cozy yet heavily rushed place.
If you are tired enough of shopping, eating and roaming, you can find some recreational yet entertaining, fun aspects for both adults and children in one corner of the Golden beach from which the huge Puri sea beach road starts. Here you can find huge giant wheels, dancing cars, Columbus, games for kids and many more to just have a fun-filled time. Do visit these and the charges are also too little to have a giant wheel ride, hardly 40 rupees.
The Golden Beach of Puri in day times is all about the beach, waves, sun, camel rides, horse rides, etc but its nights are all about the beach road as one whole side of the road is filled with various huge luxurious beach view hotels, restaurants, bars and many more. The best part is every place is brightly lit up to attract the tourists to step in to have a beautiful stay or food or drinks. The Puri Hotel is the famous go-to place for everyone. It's like the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. Most people say, that the scene in and around the Puri Hotel is the most happening because of the food stalls, beach view, shopping stalls and the parties in the hotel.
But, the parties suck because people here are less about partying souls more of appreciating the nature souls. So, don't expect too much about parties here at night. Because this place can make you feel with its scenic and serene night vibes. Start from the initial point of the Golden beach and walk till the Swargadwara (here the bodies would be burned and it is a belief that people who get cremated here can earn the heavenly abode in peace). Amidst beautiful hotels and restaurants, some famous temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Jagannath can also be seen. This place is a whole package for a tourist to explore the core of Odisha traditions, arts, crafts, culture, and people.
Altogether, the night market on Puri's Golden sea beach is a thrilling and entertaining for any person. With too many people roaming here and there, the Puri Police always keeps an eye for the safety of tourists. One can find, police tents and inquiry tents guide if you lost somewhere in the middle of the huge Golden beach. So, no need to worry about anything. Just catch an auto-rickshaw and stop by this beach to enjoy one of your best nights. You will feel your every rupee worth spending here.
