The climate systems in India have shifted dramatically, and most of the states have recently seen floods and landslides as a result of extreme rainfall. For a country like India, climate change is completely beyond human control, therefore all we can do is monitor the weather and act responsibly as citizens.
Recently, there have been reports of a cloudburst near the Amarnath shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. Videos show a massive volume of water gushing down the hills of Amarnath's holy caves, and officials have asked tourists in the Gund and Kangan regions to stay away from the river Sindh.
Places that rep0rted landslides in July:
1. Maharashtra: Heavy rains in Maharashtra, India's westernmost state, have resulted in landslides and flooding, killing at least 110 people. Flooding is caused by a variety of variables, but experts believe that excessive rainfall is made more frequent by climate change caused by global warming. Taliye, a small village south of India's financial hub Mumbai, was completely destroyed by a landslide.
2. Himachal Pradesh: On the Sangla-Chitkul route in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district, rocks descended on a tempo traveller, killing nine persons and injuring three more. Rescue efforts are now ongoing, as per reports.
3. Karnataka: In Karnataka, nine people have died and three have gone missing as a result of severe rains that have wreaked havoc across the state, causing floods and landslides, as per reports.
4. NH-10 (Gangtok & Sikkim): Heavy rains prompted a massive landslide on the National Highway-10 connecting Gangtok (Sikkim) and Siliguri (West Bengal). The landslide occurred on the 29th mile of the NH-10, blocking the road and disrupting traffic flow. According to the most recent sources, the clearing process is in full swing. Small vehicles heading to Siliguri are being diverted from Teesta via Peshok Road.
5. Jammu & Kashmir: Due to a major landslide induced by heavy rains in Ramban district, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was stopped to traffic, officials said. Over 500 vehicles were stuck, as per the resources shared. A landslide at Magarkot belt in the Ramsoo area shut the 270-kilometer route, which is the sole all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country.
