Day 1

The Amarnath Temple 🙏 is a Hindu shrine located in the Pahalgam tehsil of the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. A cave situated at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft), 141 km (88 mi) from Srinagar, reached through either Sonamarg or Pahalgam. It is an important shrine of Hinduism. The cave, located in Sind Valley, is surrounded by glaciers, snowy mountains 🏔️🗻 and is covered with snow most of the year, except for a short period in the summer, when it is open to pilgrims.

We (self and my school friend Debajit Sur Roy ) had reached Pahalgam via Srinagar for the Yatra and had taken Chopper ride 🚁 from Pahalgam to Panchtarani (last and nearest helipad for reaching the Holy cave) and had walked🚶‍♂️ to the Holly cave from there, which took us around 3.5 hours due to the treacherous road and high altitude 🗻related complications. As the weather had deteriorated 🌧️ by the time we had reached the cave, we had to stay back for the night near the holy cave. Some kind hearted souls had allowed us to stay in their camp ⛺ for the night as the nearest base camp was around 40 mins journey downhill. On the next day, we had started walking from our location after the sunrise as locals there had warned us not to venture out in the dark as there were some earlier incidents of bear attacks before dawn 🐨. From there it took us around 2.5 hours to reach the base camp at Panchtarani, where we took part in the Independence day celebration (it was 15th August 🇮🇳) with our Armed forces before taking Chopper 🚁 ride back to Pahelgam.

I would suggest everyone to visit the place at least once as a Spiritual or Adventurous trip, whatever suits you. Indian Armed Forces provides adequate security  and they are always ready to help the Yatris in case of any exigency. Base camps provides free food and snacks for all the Yatris. FYI, It's open to all the Religions. Only requirement is that you have to be below 70 years age and medically fit (proper medical tests and fitness certificate from Government hospital is mandatory for the Yatra registration).
