Car connoisseurs had their wildest dreams come true on Feb 17-18, 2018, when the worthiest MG car collectors from across the country descended under one roof in Delhi and Gurgaon. The occasion was the first ever MG Rally and Owners Meet that flagged off on Saturday, Feb 17, from India Gate and then joined a bigger exhibition (organised by 21 Guns Salute) at Ambience Greens Golf Course, Gurgaon till Sunday, Feb 18.
First MG Rally and Owners Meet
The first ever MG Car Rally had vintage masterpieces participating in the event. Besides the cultural performances, food & drinks, the best part about the event was the way all the proud MG owners interacted with each others and media. Their passion shown through amidst the rest of the classic vintage car owners in one of the largest car rallies in Asia.
Some of the most influential MG cars on display were the 1951 TD 1200 CC, 1965 MGB 1600 CC, 1937 MG VA Drop Head Coupe, 1965 MG Midget 1000 CC, 1965 MGB-GT 20HP, and the MG TC. Phew, what a lineup!
The glorious assembly of all the winning MG cars at the event was a fitting culmination of a 2-day meet.
Rendezvous With The Proud MG Owners
Being an MG fan since childhood, I had the chance to mingle with the proud but extremely interactive & friendly owners of some the best MG Cars.
First up I met with Mr. Amit Maheshwary, the owner of a perfectly restored 1965 MG Midget 1000 CC. The man hails from Jaipur and is the owner of a garage there. The passionate way in which he talked about his prized MG possession was something I can't replicate in words. His car was the winner of the prestigious HH Maharaja of Jaipur Trophy.
I then saw a gleaming red 1951 MG TD 1200 CC, and obviously went up to its owner – Mr. Amir Ali Jetha – who told us that his HH Maharaja of Kapurthala Awarded car was like a sibling to him since he grew up with the car in Mumbai. Woah!
Meeting the next owner Ms. Jagruti Dave (also from Mumbai) was quite a delight because she was one of the very few female owners at the rally. But she had done a fantastic job restoring her majestic 1965 MGB 1600 CC! No wonder the car stood third in the MG Classic Award category.
Some of the other winning owners I had the privilege to meet were Mr. Sander Sarkaraia (1st runner up in MG Classic category with his 1937 MG VA Drop Head Coupe), Ms. Usha Kothari (winner of MG Classic category with her 1965 MGB-GT 20HP), and Madan Mohan (owner of an ultra-stylish MG TC).
At the end of these heartfelt discussions I was only craving for more. Nonetheless, I keep abreast with what's happening with my favourite luxury car brand through their website and Facebook, so it's all cool.
