It has been a little over one year since the WHO declared Covid-19 a pandemic. What followed were strict nation-wide lockdowns as well as domestic and international travel restrictions. However, travelling resumed soon, with strict guidelines in place to reduce transmission of the infection.
As per new guidelines shared by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, passengers that are wearing masks incorrectly or not wearing the masks will be put on the no-fly list.
As reported by the media, any passenger onboard an aircraft who refuses to wear a mask or violates the COVID-19 protocol for passengers, despite repeated warnings during the flight, may be treated as ‘unruly passenger’. The procedure to handle such an unruly passenger, as provided in Civil Aviation Requirements, will be followed by the concerned airline.
The said "unruly passengers" will be put on the no-fly list, however, the DGCA has not specified the duration. It may vary from 2 months to 2 years based on the offence committed.
So if you are taking a flight anytime soon, please remember to cooperate with Covid safety guidelines. Let's not forget that the pandemic is not over yet!
