The Aguada Fort is an ancient Portuguese fort dating back to the 17th century and overlooks the Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea. There is a four-storey lighthouse inside the Aguada Fort, which is the main attraction of this fort. And it looks very attractive at sunset.

This fort was built in 1612 to escape the Dutch and Marathas. Aguada Fort was the most important and prized fort for the Portuguese. This fort was a huge source of freshwater, hence the Portuguese name of this fort is named after the Portuguese word for water i.e. 'Agua'. Water is called agua in Portuguese word. And the Aguada Fort used to be a source of freshwater for the sailors which was never empty. It could hold 2,376,000 gallons of water and was one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in Asia.
