Pathar Sahib Gurudwara | Leh-Srinagar Highway

Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, located 25 kilometres before Leh, is a popular tourist destination in Jammu & Kashmir. It’s interesting because there’s such a narrative linked with this location, and everyone who comes here is shocked. This Gurudwara, located between Srinagar and Leh, is frequented by hundreds of worshippers each year.

Legend behind Pathar Sahib Gurudwara

After preaching a top Mount Sumer in 1517 AD, Guru Nanak Dev ji is reported to have travelled to Leh through Nepal, Sikkim, and Tibet. Then they informed him of a monster that lived on Leh’s hill and tortured him.

Hearing the people’s suffering, Guru Nanak Dev took a seat on the riverbank. When they saw this monster, they became enraged and prepared to murder them.

Then, one day, as Guru Nanak Dev Ji was immersed in God’s devotion, a demon dropped a large stone from the mountain on him, burying Guruji. But then something weird happened.

When it came into contact with Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the stone transformed into wax, and the back portion of Guruji’s body became submerged in it. The mark of the body of Guru Nanak Dev ji, which was buried in the stone, is still present on the stone.

The devil then realised he had made a mistake and fell at Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s feet. The stone with the demon’s footsteps may still be seen in Leh today.

The Indian Army constructed a Gurdwara… This stone is thought to have been extinct for a long time. This stone was discovered again when the building of the Leh-Nimu road began in 1970
