No, the headline of this blog is not at all mis-leading. You actually need to be very brave, if you are planning to spend a night at Haridwar. Well, till the end of this blog you would get to know why.
Colleagues of my office were very inspired by my travel Life and always insisted to plan any trip. Most of the time it was cancelled due to work priorities, but one fine day we were talking about sins that we have done in life (just a joke), and plan to take holy dip at Haridwar.
Out of nowhere 4 colleagues of me (Ajay, Sumit, Ashish and Aman) agreed to go and we all started our journey at late evening.
For those who don’t know much about Haridwar, let me throw some light upon its History. Haridwar is regarded as one of the seven holiest places (Sapta Puri) to Hindus. According to the Samudra manthan, Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nashik and Prayag (Allahabad) is one of four sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda. This is manifested in the Kumbha Mela being celebrated every 3 years in one of the 4 places, and thus every 12 years in Haridwar.
Haridwar is just 230 Km from Delhi, which we reach till 01:00 Am, after taking almost millions of small breaks, since we wanted to reach till early morning.
It was almost deserted, as we can see only few people sitting, some were taking bath at night, most of them were sleeping. Some Baba and Saint smoking weed.
We took one good round of the entire place and decided to move towards the Mansa Devi Temple. There is a rope way which could be used to commute till the temple as it is at the hill top, or else you just need to trek till top.
Monkeys and some wild animals might attack you as the trek is the part of the forest. No one is allowed to trek at night. As if you forcefully try to do, someone would for sure stop you.
Being a Travel freak and adventurous I insisted my colleagues to trek at night and reach till Mansa Devi temple. Ofcorse no one agreed as most of them were afraid of wild animals and ghosts.
I insisted and started to trek on my own (alone), further Ajay followed me and left with no option everyone followed.
To be very honest I was scare too, as there were some mysterious sounds coming from the jungle, but we continued.
Till half trek, we rested for a while and suddenly out of nowhere two saints came to us and scolded us. They said that friends of Mansa Devi (Goddess) roam in the jungle and could kill you. And there are Tigers in the jungle who have recently attacked at night.
And they almost force us to sit there and spend the entire night with them at the same spot. Honestly we all were scared now, but stupidity and adventure bug has already bitten us.
We continued, every single voice from jungle was scary. Each one of us was carrying a stick so that we can beat Tiger if it appears (as if actually we can do it).
Somehow, in just an hour we managed to reach the top and felt really proud. Yes, the area was deserted and we can’t see anyone, so we decided to return back.
Next morning we take the dip, and decided to trek again this time with people and light.
At the morning the road was so crowded that we were laughing at ourself that were we actually scare of these path. But yes we were.
Monkeys and Langoors would be your guest throughout till temple. At the top of Temple, the view is amazing as you can see everything (nearby places) from the top.
We returned back, with great memories of the scary jungle.
Trust me, if you really think that it is easy to Trek to that Jungle (till Mansa Devi Temple) at night. Be my guest.
