In a significant development for India's road network, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to construct an 86.5km access-controlled expressway that will seamlessly link the Trans-Haryana Expressway with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, streamlining travel between northern and western India.

This endeavour, budgeted at Rs 1,400 crore, aims to not only reduce travel time but also alleviate vehicular pressure on the Delhi-NCR region.

Improved Connectivity in Northern India

Commuters and cargo transporters from northern states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab will greatly benefit from this project as they will be able to utilise the Trans-Haryana Expressway (NH152D) to reach the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway without the need to traverse Delhi-NCR, making the journey more efficient and reducing congestion.

Easing Traffic and Expanding Accessibility

This new expressway will also enhance connectivity for various Haryana districts, improving accessibility to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Additionally, it will significantly reduce the distance between Chandigarh and Jaipur, further relieving traffic pressure on NH-44, a major artery running from Srinagar to Kanyakumari.

Project Progress

NHAI officials have already awarded the construction tender for this access-controlled expressway, and work is set to commence soon. The project is expected to be completed within two years from the start of construction.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, spanning 1,386km, is making rapid progress, with milestones achieved in multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. Once completed, it will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 hours to just 12 hours, effectively shortening the distance from 1,424km to 1,242km.

This infrastructure development marks a significant step towards enhancing India's road transport network and promoting economic growth in the region.
