Meet Benny Kottarathil and Molly Benny, a couple from Kerala who set out on an expedition to explore everything that India has to offer on foot.
They started on 1st December 2021, from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, India's southern tip and completed their journey on 3rd July 2022, giving Kashmir to Kanyakumari a whole new meaning! They even got awarded the 2022 National Record for the “First Couple to Walk Around India” by Universal Records Forum for covering 17 states in seven months and three days.
Why did they do it?
This 216 day journey on foot to uncover the wonders of our incredible country was their way of promoting walking. Moreover, they also wanted to convey to childless parents that travelling together could bring a new sense of awakening.
This wonderful expedition didn't come without its challenges. Both Benny, 53 and Molly, 46 were teachers in Andhra Pradesh for over 15 years but were forced to return home due to COVID. Being out of work, they decided to go on this walking tour. To undertake their expedition, they even had to mortgage gold and borrow money, but their determination surpassed the hurdles.
They even had a near death in Kashmir and were almost victims of a robbery in Tamil Nadu during their journey. There were also nights when they didn't have a place to sleep, including a night they spent at a cemetery. But they believe that the positive experiences like visiting the magnificent Golden Temple in Punjab and tasting scrumptious food in Andhra Pradesh made it all worth it. Benny’s knowledge of 6 languages also helped them a lot throughout.
The couple documented their journey on their YouTube channel "Vicky’s Wonder World" named after their dog 'Vicky.'
So, it’s true that great things don’t come without challenges, but if you have someone to face those challenges with you, you can overcome it all!
Benny and Molly are the absolute travel couple goals, aren’t they?
