From last many days we urged to have a bike trip on hills somewhere. With all the research and suggestions, we shortlisted 2 destinations, Ladakh or North East. After a very close fight Meghalaya won because of the time of our travel - July. As name suggests it is known as Abode of Clouds and rains are perfect time to feel the echo of the region. As it is our first visit to north eastern states, we want to include one more state and decided to add sikkim in our 8 days of plan.
While searching for bike rental options at Guwahati we came to know many agencies e.g wanderlust, rent bikes awe rides etc. After reading reviews on tripadvisor and google and little communication with each of them over phone we booked our ride with awe rides.
Next step was finding a place to sleep and finalizing route in my google maps. After a careful review at Tripadvisor we booked Eee Cee Hotel, primarily because of its central location and good available offers.
Finalizing a perfect itinerary was a huge work but mapping it on my maps was comparatively convenient and it is a lot of help as u can save it offline and it will be accommodating when driving by yourself.
1st day we are planning to cover enroute Umiam Lake only, ending the day trolling at police bazar in Shillong.
2nd Day we will drive towards south Dawki River & Mawlynnong, cleanest village of Asia, visiting all the places in between.
3rd Day we will move to Cherrapunjee and Mawsmai Cave, returning back by second half and moving to Guwahati to board our train to Siliguri.
Above itinerary is ambitious and we may skip one or two places if felt exhaustive. Famous eating joints are also included while mapping our plan to keep them in our list while exploring around.
We booked our ticket from Guwahati to Newjalpaigudi in kanchanjunga Express for an overnight travel to Siliguri. At Siliguri, bike renting is more competitive than Guwahati but rates are high comparatively. We applied same procedure for stripping down the options, and ended up booking it from darjeeling riders.
Sikkim is not advisable for road trip during rainy season due to landslide prone area and therefore implementation of planned itinerary is subject to N number of conditions. 5 days are very less to visit all the places in sikkim. Making a compact itinerary and choosing what to include was an onerous job.
Our stay is planned at Golden Heights hotel and 1st day we will be visiting local destinations of Gangtok including Hanuman Tok and Banjhakri Falls.
2nd Day we will move towards tsomgo lake and visit world famous Nathula Pass, Harbhajan temple and Nathang Valley.
On our 3rd Day, we will move to Pelling after visiting Lingdum Monastery and will spend some time at Ravangla also.
After spending scenic tour of pelling including Kanchenjunga Falls and Singshore Bridge we will move to Darjeeling on our 4th Day of Sikkim.
We have planned only half day for darjeeling but most of the points are to be visited early in the morning starting from sunrise at Tiger Hills, so we are hopeful that we will be able to do it.
We are ready to travel while raindrops pouring down from sky. We are having only one rucksack with rain covers. Our raincoats are ready and we are planning to go slow on wet roads. Separate poly bags are packed for keeping wet clothes, wallets and mobiles. Shoes and tough to dry clothes are avoided. Gears are packed, tickets are booked and we are all set to have an adventurous, energetic and drizzling bike trip. See you on the other side of the journey. Bye Bye.
