Surrounded by oak and thick blue pine forests, well connected by road and yet unspoiled by blatant commercialism, at 1700mts above sea level, Lansdowne qualifies as a hidden gem of a hill station.
Since it is maintained by the Cantonment board, it's well preserved, pollution/plastic free. It's a place of great pride for the Garhwal Rifles as their war memorials and quaint, Heritage Regimental mess does adorn the place.
I would have made a separate entry for the mess it self as it requires special permission and a dress code(basically laces and collars for the Gentlemen) for the entry, please take out at least a weekend out of your busy urban lives to experience the natural beauty that abounds here.
the Officers'Mess is a good site to visit, yet I would caution people with environmental concerns to be aware of the animal trophy display, (it's a taxidermist's delight though!)
Looking at the flowers that take root in trees, the breathtaking beauty of the place is best soaked in while taking lil treks along narrow tracks ...
