Beyond the Himalayan high passes, lies India's best kept secret, Ladakh.
The poor proximity of this region to the rest of India has kept the lands of Ladakh preserved from external influence. But at the same time the region faces difficulty in finding access to primary education and healthcare provisions.
Sight to Sky is an NGO founded by Elizabeth Tan, Edwin Lee, Kate Zhu and Fei Woon that works to promote community health education and access to healthcare in the region.
In this video, Edwin Lee on behalf of the charity, Sight to Sky, travels to the Zanskar region to distribute a batch of prescription glasses to the locals.
The visuals from his journey on this difficult terrain tell the tale of the plight of the people of Ladakh who are living bereft of medical facilities in this region where a majority of the population faces eye problems due to the altitude of this region.
Further ahead, this team of volunteers travels to Lingshed, a remote village in the Zanskar region where one can reach only by foot. In this village about 70% of the population suffers from eye problems.
When you travel to a new place, remember to leave something behind. With this wonderful thought in mind the organization is working towards the healthcare of the people of this region high up north in India.
