Kulasekarapattinam or KULASAI in Thoothukudi district of southern Tamilnadu is a unique temple town facing the sea. It is an ancient port that finds mention in Marco Polo’s travels.
What is not known to many is, KULASAI is home to ARULMIGU MUTHARAMMAN temple. An incarnation of Durga, Mutharamman is a powerful deity who draws millions of devoted pilgrims especially during Dasara.
After Mysore and perhaps Kolkata, Dasara is celebrated on a grand scale in KULASAI. What’s unique here is devotees fast for 41 days and travel from afar dressed as gods of their choice only to concrete on the final day of Dasara. Riotously colourful are devotees dressed up as Kali Mata, the fiery goddess of valour.
Intense devotion. Sublime faith. Uncompromising discipline.
KULASAI is a fascinating amalgam of faith, dedication and discipline and a well kept secret.
Mark your calendars and visit KULASAI in 2019 for an unforgettable experience.
