After travelling to dry Ladakh, this time we thought to visit the green avenues of Meghalaya during Diwali (i.e. 8-15 Nov). We like visiting national parks. So, included Kaziranga as well. We planned to visit Kaziranga, Shillong, Cherrapunji (locally known as Sohra), Mawlynnong & Guwahati in a week's time due to limitations of holidays. Hence could not include more destinations of Assam & Meghalaya, else it would have required 12-13 days at least. If you visit Meghalaya during the monsoon, you would really be in the abode of clouds, as named. Kaziranga has tigers too. But don't carry an expectation to sight it :D due to tall elephant grass. Cherrapunji is very good town, colourful, neat and clean. Mawlynnong is indeed a garden. Shillong is bit congested. Guwahati has nothing muth except brahmaputra, kamakhya temple, museum. It was included just for transit through airport.
This National park is very different than other national parks and forests. here you will find tall elephant grass (longer than height of elephants). There are elephant rides also available in the morning. If you have luck, you will spot a rhino near by, else, in jeep safaris, rhinos are spotted very far at the bank of lakes.
This is a beautiful town divided into upper and lower regions. the small homes are brightly painted and having beautiful plants in the front courtyard. even the bit congested area of the town is neat, clean and colourful. there is a duoble decker roots bridge nearby cherrapunji but it takes 2-3 hours of hiking on one side to reach.
