Secunderabad Secunderabad is a historical town in Telangana state lies just at a distance of about 7.7 km from Hyderabad and is known as the twin city of Hyderabad. The city was founded in order to station the French and, subsequently, the British troops back when the British and the French established their hold over India and have a lot of British architectural influence.
While the place holds a lot of history, the Government also wants to bring modernisation to the city and one such development is the foundation stone laid for the redevelopment of the Secunderabad Railway Station by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8th April 2023.
The redevelopment of the Railway station is being done at a cost of Rs.720 Cr and will have world-class amenities and an aesthetically designed iconic station building.
It will have a double-level spacious roof plaza where the first tier will serve as a passenger waiting area, while the second tier will have a rooftop plaza. All passenger amenities in one place along with multimodal connectivity for providing seamless transfer of passengers from rail to other modes among others.
The place will also have multi-level car parking and the largest sky concourse and will be at par with the new airports developed across the nation. The building area will be increased to 61,912 square metres from the current area of 11,427 sq. m.
To ensure the completion of time, necessary ground work has already commenced. In the first stage, the Lead design Director, safety consultant and Proof consultant have been appointed so as to finalize the design aspects within time. IIT Delhi has been appointed as the Proof Consultant to evaluate the upcoming structure design of the building.
To monitor in real-time basis, Site Office and Site laboratory has been established on the South Side of the existing Secunderabad Station building.
Secunderabad Station is the only NSG1 category station on the Zone, currently handling annually more than 20 million passengers.
As per reports, During the same programme, 13 new Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) services in the suburban section of the Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin city region were flagged off.
