Why is this Railway line of such significance?

Once the railway project completes, the 10-hour road journey to Imphal from Jiribam can be reduced to 2.5 hours. With the NF Frontier putting its full efforts into the completion of this project, the northeastern state would have tremendous growth in small-scale industries and tourism.

As per reports, The NF Railway and CPRO said that this railway service will also help in receiving essential commodities faster by the state and help the state's local producers to export their produces outside the state faster.
