India will soon have its first cable-stayed railway bridge, named Anji Khad Bridge, which will be operational by May 2023, according to railway ministry officials. The bridge will connect the Union Territory of Kashmir with the rest of the country and the two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is an engineering marvel, one of the most significant railway projects on a mountain. The bridge spans 725m and is supported by 96 cables, holding it approximately 331m above the Anji River, with 473m of the bridge being cable-stayed.

The design and technology for the bridge are based on the famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, and it has been designed to withstand high-altitude weather conditions. Once completed, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Line will offer new travel experiences to Jammu and Kashmir, although it is expected to be ready only by February 2024.
