When and Where is the Festival?
The festival is back with a bang this year, from October 24 to October 30. The festival will take place in the charming town of Kullu, nestled in the lap of the Himalayan mountains.
It will begin with the glorious Raghunathji's Rath Yatra, a majestic procession of more than 300 deities from different parts of the region. The deities will be carried on splendid chariots, accompanied by music and dance.
What are the Highlights of the Festival?
The festival will feature a dazzling array of events and activities to entertain and educate you. Some of the highlights are:
- Enjoy an international carnival on October 25 and October 30, where you can see marvellous performances of music, dance and art from over 20 countries, including Romania, Russia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Croatia, Thailand, Panama, Taiwan, the Maldives, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, South Sudan, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Ghana.
- Explore a cultural exhibition on October 26 and October 27, where you can learn about the rich history and heritage of Kullu Dussehra and the diverse cultures and traditions of Himachal Pradesh. You can also buy handicrafts, souvenirs and local delicacies from various stalls.
- Have fun at a folk dance competition on October 28 and October 29, where you can watch and join in various folk dances from Himachal Pradesh and other states of India. You can also listen to folk music and songs from different regions.
- Witness a grand finale on October 30, where you can see a spectacular display of fireworks and lights that will light up the night sky. You can also join in the prayers and rituals that mark the end of the festival.
How to Reach the Festival?
The festival is easily accessible by road and air, as the state government has improved connectivity between Chandigarh and Kullu, reducing the travel time to just six hours. This, coupled with flights from Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar to Kullu, is expected to draw even more visitors to the festival. You can also take buses or taxis from nearby towns and cities to reach Kullu.
