The new year is here, and all of us are drawing up our travel plans for the immediate and distant future. With international travel off the cards for a while more, we are all on the lookout for places to visit within India.
Gujarat, has in the past, asked everyone to spend a few days in the state. While we may have the more frequented travel destinations including Ahmedabad, Kutch, Gir National Park etc on our radar. However, there are other locations in the state that are gradually becoming popular in the tourist circuit. More so because they may be in the news more often.
Kevadiya Colony, located on the banks of the Narmada river at the Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat, has been active in public memory for Big and First news pieces. The world’s tallest statue, the colossal 182 m tall, “Statue of Unity” dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is located here. Also, the country’s first commercial seaplane service was started from here to Ahmedabad in October 2020.
Now, we have yet another reason to add Kevadiya to our travel list. India's first Green Railhead, has been inaugurated here. As reported by news portals, the new railway station has some key features that make it the first "Green" Railway station in the country. The station building is registered in the Green Building Council for being India’s first railway station that is “Green Building” certified. Water management techniques have been used to harvest rain water. Also the building has a sewage treatment plant, eco-waterless urinals and drip irrigation for the gardens and lawns. Also, all installed electrical fixtures and appliances are high on energy saving parameters
Should you travel to Kevadiya by train, there are other features that make the railway station highly modernised and user friendly. For ease of passengers, air-conditioned waiting rooms have been made at the first two levels of the station. The third level has a viewing gallery that offers magnificent view of the colossal statue. There is also a tribal art gallery at the station showcasing the tribal art of the region. To add to the passenger delight, the station area has a spacious parking lot, landscaping, solar light poles, food courts, horticulture plants, thematic park with selfie zone and children’s play area.
For tourists planning to visit Kevadiya, the Green Railhead is connected to various cities in the country. There are daily trains connecting Kevadiya to Ahmedabad and Mumbai (Dadar). Other than that, weekly trains to Varanasi, Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi), Chennai and Rewa (MP) connect Kevadiya to other parts of the country.
So, if you are taking up the invitation Kuch Din To Guzaro Gujarat Mein, then you can add the Statue of Unity and the many firsts, that this place has to offer, to your itinerary.
