“Yaar, get me a bottle from Goa na” was the message I received from 5 of my friends when I told them I'm going to Goa. However, you'll already know that you can just carry two as per the regulations.
I covertly wished I could get each one of them a bottle.. and it looks like my wishes may come true...
You may already know one of the main reasons for tourism in Goa apart from the gorgeous beaches is cheap liquor. Hence it is understandable to ask your Goa-bound friend to get you a bottle or two. Alcohol in Mumbai is quite expensive and who wouldn’t want to have IMFL at the same price as the domestic one.
In spite of the limitation on the amount you can carry, people still manage smuggle few extra bottles and later face issues at the State Border Security – Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Hence, with the availability of cheap alcohol and quite a several liquor vendors in the state, Goa Govt is considering to increase the amount of liquor a tourist and take back home to boost tourism and its excise revenue. This attempt is also towards promoting Goa's local/heritage drink "Feni" which is brewed from cashews. If you haven't tried Feni already, this is why you should :
✓ No hangover
✓ Higher % of alcohol
✓ Organic drink
✓ No preservatives/added flavors
✓ Affordable/cheap
✓ A traditional remedy to combat certain illness
Let’s hope this works out soon so we can come back home with more booze. Also, no more sneaking/smuggling/paying the cops if you get caught!!
Do you remember any instance when you had to carry lot of bottles??
Let me know in the comments!
