Northeaster part of India is i bucket list of every traveler but few could make it. Here is my travel plan to help you to plan your amazing northeast trip.
Start of Trip
lets start our trip from Guwahati.
How to reach?
there are direct trains and flights from Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Where to stay?
you can stay near railway station. If you get discount and travelling with family I would suggest stay at Treebo hotel guwahati. Very nice hotel and in heart of the city.
What to see?
Uma Nanda Temple: A 17th century temple on a river island of the same name is dedicated to Shiva.
Kamakhya Temple: A world famous Hindu Temple and Pilgrimage.A 25-30 minutes drive from the heart of the City.
Meghalaya Scotland of East
Next stop is Shillong.
How to reach? you can get state buses and shared taxi from Guwahati to Shillong. It takes 3-4 hrs to reach shillong and charges 170-250 rs.
Where to Stay?
Shillong has option for every kind of traveler, so accommodation is not a big problem. You can find stay near police bazar.
Places to visit:
Umiam Lake : north of shillong
Shillong Peak: Indian air force radar *don't carry cameras
Elephanta Falls
Butterfly Museum
Rain rain more rain
From shillong you will get shared cabs from Barabazar to cherapunjee. One of the top rainiest places on Earth.
Places to visit
Mawsmai Cave: Meghalaya is mainly famous for waterfalls and caves. Top 10 longest caves of the world are in Meghalaya. Natural cave with Stalagmite and Stalagtite formations. Lighting has also been arranged. This cave is one of the must visit spots.
Nohkalikai falls: most famous waterfall in Meghalaya.
Double Decker Bridge
How to reach?
You can reach nongriat from Cherapunjee easily. Either go by cabs or hitchhiking. People of Meghalaya are really welcoming and always ready to help you.
Where to Stay?
very limited options are available to stay in Nongriat. Famous and good option is Nongriat Homestay. You have to book in advance. There is no online booking system. You have to book you your stay by calling them.
Things to do:
Nongriat is famous for world famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge. To reach at bridge you have trek for 3.5km Just spend relax evening at Nongriat and get ready for next adventure. Next day start early morning to rainbow fall in between you will see natural swimming pool. It will take around 4.5 hrs but its depend on your stamina.
Swacha Bharat
Asia's cleanest village is in India. It's hard to believe but yes it's in India. Everyone should visit this village just to know importance of cleanliness. From Nongriat come back to shillong and from shillong you will get hared cab to cleanest village. On same day you can come back to shillong.
To Manipur
On day 7 start your journey towards silchar by night bus. Early morning yiu will reach silchar and from silchar you will get shared cab to Imphal capital of Manipur. It will take 8hrs to reach Imphal because road conditions.
on same day you can visit worlds biggest market run by women in Imphal. there are other few places to visit in Imphal
Where to stay?
there are many options available in Imphal. You will get room for 400-500 rs.
Loktak Lake: only floating lake in the world
From Imphal you will get shared cabs to town near loktak lake. Loktak lake is world's only floating lake.
Where to stay?
few homestays are available near loktak lake. also some homestays are floating in lake. You can experience floating homestay in Loktak lake.
Things to do:
keibul lamjao national park: Only floating national park in the world also famous for dancing deer or shangai deer.
Sendra Island: you can experience the beauti from Sendra Island.
Kohima: Start of Hornbill festival
How to reach?
There are direct buses from Imphal to kohima. From Kohima go to villaged named Kisama village. The village where actual festival celebrated by the people.
Things to do:
'Enjoy the FESTIVAL.' You can enjoy the festival also you can visit tourist places in Kohima.
Dzukou valley
Make group at Kisama village and go to Dzukou valley must visit place in Nagaland. You can spend one night at Dzukou valley and on next morning come back at festival place.
Start your return journey.
From Kohima you can reach to dimapur by bus and from dimapur you can reach to Guwahati by Train. Train will take 5 hrs to reach Guwahati so in mean time time you can explore market of Guwahati.
