Here’s what some scrumptious breakfasts look like in different states across India

If there’s one thing that's to love about India, it’s all the diversity we get to sample for every few kilometers we travel across its length and breadth. You might be surprised to know that throughout the country, there are as many as 25 different kinds of breakfasts which are staple, each in different states and localities.

While some states start their day off with their mouth-watering paranthes, some do it with their delectable, flavoury Sambar. There are a wide range of breakfast dishes in India, some of which have gone on to become the most loved and the most popular among all of them. Scroll on and take a look at 10 of these scrumptious looking breakfasts which are the most popular in the Indian states.

Idli and Vada

Among the many different breakfasts that belong to Tamilnadu, their one staple dish that happens to be a favourite with many of the locals is a combination of Idli and Vada. While Idli is a steamed rice cake, vada is a fried doughnut-shaped snack made out of black lentils. This is dish isn't complete without the famous Sambar, a spicy, flavoury stew made of lentils. The locals here also love their dosas and other dishes such as the pongal and upma as well, nearly as much as they love their Idlis and Vadas.

Paranthe

Punjab's Paranthes don't really an introduction. With the many stuffings used such as the aloo, the cauliflower, methi, radish these are made of many flavours and makes, usually served with butter and easily the favourite breakfast of the state people travel here from all over the country just to sample them. The paranthes have also become a really popular breakfast dish with the states of Haryana, UP and Delhi as well.

Kachori

The Kachoris of Rajasthan are famous around the world as street food and for the locals, it happens to be a breakfast favourite. This fried, incredibly yummy snack is had with different stuffings, chutneys and sauces. Along with the Kachoris, the Rajasthan folk also love their samosas and bajra rotis which are usually had with their chai or lassi. That sure is a great way to begin the day!

Kochuris or Pooris

The puffy, fried pooris or kochuris which are a breakfast staple in Bengal are usually eaten with an aloo curry or a chana curry. These pooris and their curries taste just as great as they look and is definitely one of the most popular breakfasts not just in West Bengal but all through the country.

Poha with Jalebi

Poha, also known as Chura sometimes is a kind of flattened rice that's really loved by the people of Madhya Pradesh. They have it a lot for their breakfast in many different combinations. In Indore, they make Poha with crispy Jalebis alongside it and this sweet and hot dish is one of the breakfast recipes that everyone who visits Indore must definitely sample!

Momos

Momos, a north-eastern version of dumplings are now widely spread all over the country and need no introduction. With the Assamese, however, these are one of their most loved breakfast dishes and they make it with a whole different range of stuffings. They are usually accompanied with the sweet red chutney and are just incredibly tasty while they are also really healthy what with them being steamed.

Kashmiri flatbread and Sheer chai

A special kind of flatbread that we get to sample only in Kashmir - the Kashmiri bread (which has a yummy, biscuit-ish flavour) is the breakfast staple here. In fact, this Kashmiri bread is of different flavours and makes based on the seasons and goes by names such as Girda, Lawaas, Kulcha and Bakhirkani. It is usually had with a local light pink coloured chai that goes by the name Sheer chai or noon chai.

Dhokla

Dhokla which is a popular breakfast dish in Gujarat is now loved all over India as a snack for its spongy, crunchy texture and the yummy taste. Made out of rice and chickpea batter that is steamed, this makes for a healthy breakfast is usually savoured with a sweet and sour red chutney.

Puttu and Sulaimani tea

Two of the most commonly used foods in Kerala - rice and coconut are what these pretty looking rice cakes are made of. Usually eaten with gravy made of black peas, the puttu is a great, nutritious way to start off the day. The puttus are sometimes stuffed with ingredients which make it more healthy. Apart from these, appam is yet another breakfast dish that's a favourite here. These are great when combined with a black (non milk, flavoured) tea that's called the Sulaimani tea.

Pesarattu Upma

One of the most popular breakfasts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is the Pesarattu with Upma often also called as the MLA Pesarattu(as the very first version was made in the MLA quarters). Pesarattu is a version of dosa made with green lentil batter and this dish is usually eaten with Sambar and Coconut Chutney.
