The Annual Swankha Mela, a week-long event which commenced on July 2, is a captivating festival held at the famous temple of Bawa Sidh Goria Nath in Swankha village of Ramgarh, a border tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district.
Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes and serene natural beauty, Swankha serves as the perfect backdrop for this cultural extravaganza.
The festival celebrates the vibrant traditions, art forms, and rich heritage of the region, showcasing captivating folk dances, soul-stirring music performances, and captivating theatre acts that bring to life the age-old traditions and customs of the region. Local artisans and craftsmen from Swankha and neighbouring areas also gather to display their exquisite creations, including intricate handicrafts, handwoven textiles, and mesmerizing artwork.
Ahead of the annual Swankha Mela, the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to expand its tourism offerings with the inclusion of three important shrines in the region, which are:
1. Baba Sidh Goria Shrine: Located in the village of Jatwal, this shrine is dedicated to Baba Sidh Goria, a revered saint who is believed to have possessed spiritual powers. Devotees visit the shrine to seek blessings for good health, prosperity, and fulfillment of their desires.
2. Bamu Chak Temple: A shikara style temple, it is studded with beautiful wall paintings/Murals with themes from Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas captivating the interest of both religious and cultural enthusiasts.
3. Baba Chamliyal: Known for his spiritual blessings and healing powers, Baba Chamliyal attracts devotees from various communities who seek solace, divine intervention, and blessings. The annual Chamliyal Mela held at the shrine is a significant event that promotes communal harmony, bringing together people from both India and Pakistan to pay their respects and offer prayers.
Thousands of Devotees from various regions, including J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, attend the annual Swankha mela. By visiting this festival, you can witness captivating performances, engage with local artisans, immerse yourself in the warm hospitality of the community, and relish the beauty of the surroundings, helping in contributing to the local economy and trade.
The district administration has ensured a seamless organisation of the mela, offering medical facilities, drinking water, help desks with essential facilities and governmental scheme stalls this year.
As a highlight of the festivities, a Dangal (wrestling competition) took place, adding an element of entertainment to the mela and a spectacle that drew crowds of spectators and participants, as per reports.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Swankha is Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
By Road: Swankha village is well-connected by roadways. You can reach the village by private car, taxi, or bus.
