Kamakhya temple Guwahati is a Sakta temple devoted to the mother goddess Kamakhya. It is one of the most established of the 51 Shakti Pithas.
The Story of Kamakhya Temple
As per the Kalika Purana, Kamakhya Temple signifies where Sati used to resign covertly to fulfill her love with Shiva, and it was additionally where her yoni (private parts, belly) fell after Shiva tandav (dance of obliteration) with the body of Sati. It specifies Kamakhya as one of four essential shakti peethas: the others being the Vimala Temple inside the Jagannath Temple complex in Puri, Odisha; Tara Tarini) Sthana Khanda (Breasts), close to Brahmapur, Odisha, and Dakhina Kalika in Kalighat, Kolkata, in the province of West Bengal, started from the appendages of the Corpse of Mata Sati. We visited Kamakhya temple Guwahati when we conducted tour to Arunachal Pradesh along with Assam Package. We booked this package through IRCTC Tourism. The tour included major cities of Arunachal and Assam.
The darshan and VIP entry was not included in the package, We booked ourselves by visiting temple website Maa Kamakhya.
The temple is well mainted, the purohits inside the temple explains us the history of the temple to piligrims.
