Golconda fort should be a must visit place in the bucket list of every traveller to hyderabad. I visited the place along with my wife and because this is the winter season, the climbing and seeing around was much fun.
The fort is situated at ibrahim Bagh, Hyderabad. The place is a tourist landmark, hence traffic. We went on our two wheeler, thus escaped some of the conjunctions in traffic.
The fort stretches to around 5 kms in circumference. Be prepared to walk and climb once inside. Time passing of time has definitely taken a toll out of the structure, but the govt. Of Telangana is doing a decent job with the maintenance.
This place is fun for all age group of people. We saw young as wall as old having a good time over there. A family friendly place. There is an entry fee you must pay and extra charges if you are carrying DSLR with you. However the entry fee is slightly high for foreign nationals.
They don't allow anyone to carry plastic bottles inside, which shall be collected and disposed at the entrance of the fort itself. However one let down was that the refreshment stores at the top of the fort were selling beverages in plastic containers which people just littered after use.
Climbing up the stone carved steps could be difficult for some. People could be found taking breaks from climbing and sitting on stairs. From the halfway to the top itself looking back we have a nice bird eye view of the city.
There were some renovation works going on when we visited. But that didn't lessen the fun in anyway. It is a good place to be with your partner. We enjoyed the time over there.
People from different states of India could be found visiting and needles to mention foreigners. If you are on a tour package to hyderabad. Ask your tour operator about arranging a visit to the Golconda fort. It should take around half a day to walk around the place.
