Gokarna, which means 'cow's ears' is popular not only for the Mahabaleswar Shiva temple, where the ‘Aatmalinga’ is believed to be located, but also for its pristine beaches. The charm of this trip was trekking on the coastal lines with a wonderful view of the beach.
Best Time to visit: November to February
How to Reach: From Bangalore- by Bus, it takes approx 10 hours while the nearest airport is in Goa.
Gokarna Trek Route:
Paradise Beach ---> Half Moon Beach ---> Om Beach ---> Kudle Beach
Paradise to Half moon beach trek is relatively tough as compared to the other routes.
The popular beach of Gokarna, has its name because of its shape 'om'. The Namaste Cafe is a must visit where you can relax and enjoy the view, however, it closes at 4pm so try to reach early.
The last destination where you can enjoy the sunset, swim, walk and have food at the shacks.
For day 2, we decided to see the sunrise here as it was closely located to our guest house.
Atmalinga of Lord Shiva is worshiped in this Temple.
Tips for the Trip:
1. Gokarna can be really humid, do carry water and please do not litter. Sunscreen and a hat are must to protect from the scorching sun.
2. If you plan to follow the same route, get your lunch packed before the trek, as on Half Moon Beach the number of shacks are negligible and they might not be serving lunch.
