One of the best inventions man ever made are roads followed by motorcycles.

Then then are people like me who make the optimum use of the roads on motorcycles. Let's dive into another memorable solo ride of mine. NOTE, not necessary that you need to go alone 😊

Day 1- Flight Hyderabad - Bagdogra Rapido Bagdogra - Siliguri RE Himalayan Siliguri - Gangtok

Embarking on a new adventure always brings a sense of excitement, and my day one was no exception! My journey started bright and early at 6 AM as I headed to the Hyderabad airport. However, before I could even get on my way, I had to go through a thorough security check which included explaining that I had magnets on my tank bag for my motorcycle, leading to three trips through the scanner! But once that was out of the way, I had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious hot breakfast and multiple cups of coffee at the airport lounge, all thanks to getting there early.

The start of the journey itself was full of interesting encounters, from curious individuals questioning why I was carrying my trusty helmet on the flight, to a lovely couple who patiently listened to my past riding experiences and even recommended some amazing places to visit in Gujarat! After a 2.5-hour flight, I finally arrived at Bagdogra airport, eager to see what the rest of my adventure had in store.

Buckle up and get ready for an exciting ride as I take you through my adventure in Sikkim! Respecting the warning from Google Map aunty about heavy traffic, led me to take a ride with Rapido, and boy was I glad I did. I made my way to Royal Riders in a jiffy, owned and operated by the amazing Mr Gopal, who had made sure that the bike I was going to ride was in top-notch condition. Fresh engine oil, new brake pads, and everything else necessary to handle the rough terrain of the Himalayas, all checked! After completing the formalities, I saddled up and began my epic trip to Gangtok on a sunny afternoon.

As I crossed Sevoke, Testa and the Coronation Bridge into Sikkim state, the climb towards the mighty Himalayas began. The ride was smooth, with a slightly hot weather that teased me with the promise of a free shower from the rain gods. And just as I had hoped, the rain poured down on me during the last couple of hours of my ride, providing the perfect cool-down after the heat of the day.

As I arrived in Gangtok around 6:30 in the evening, I quickly settled in and couldn't help but notice how close I was to the clouds, with the temperature dropping to a cool 12 o in the late evening. The city was drenched in heavy night rain, adding to the mystical charm of the place. On my first night in Sikkim, I enjoyed some delicious street food with a sweet lady who overfed me with chicken momos, roti, and andaa bhujii. Trust me when I say, the food in Sikkim is not just a treat for your taste buds, but also a treat for your soul!

Day 2 - Gangtok to Lachen

Got ready to experience the adventure of a lifetime! As the morning sun rises, the looming clouds give a clear message that a downpour may happen anytime. But with 4 layers of clothing, you are ready to take on the road to Lachen, which promises to be a thrilling journey.

As you ascend higher up the mountains, the mist and waterfalls on the highway create a breath-taking view. You'll feel like you're soaring above the clouds as you move from Gangtok' s 5413 feet to 8530 feet. And the mandatory stop at Mangan is the perfect place to stock up on fuel and recharge with a cup of chai and snacks.

The road from Mangan to Lachen is an adventure in itself, with steep curves and passing through a lovely tunnel. As you approach the permit check post, you'll have to keep your camera tucked away since the roads are secured by the Indian army. But the real magic was witnessing heaven on earth in the rains!

Arriving at Lachen, the cold takes over, but you're greeted with warmth and hospitality from the locals. I meet other adventurous travellers, including a couple riding their Honda CB350 all the way from Kolkata and 2 young kids from Sonarpur. Then when the night fell, I huddle up with warm blankets and delicious food, preparing for the ultimate challenge: conquering the world's highest lake, Gurudongmar Lake, located at an incredible height of 17300+ feet.

Day 3 - Lachen - Thangu Valley - Katao - Lachung

I started my day early with 7 layers of clothing and 3 pairs of socks to conquer one of the toughest roads in the world - the road from Lachen towards Gurudongmar. The ride started with perfect sunshine and snow-capped mountains, quickly turning into a winter wonderland straight out of a Christmas postcard. It was slippery and cold, but I managed to ride until Yathang Valley, very close to the check post at Thangu. Despite the black ice and the Royal Enfield Himalayan temperature meter reading 1degree, I rode on, until it was time to make a wise decision and turn back. Though I didn't make it to Gurudongmar this time, the 3-hour ride will be forever etched in my memory.

But the adventure doesn't stop there! Next stop, Lachung. Riding through the steep mountains of North Sikkim, I was mesmerized by the breath-taking views at every turn. It didn't take long to reach Lachung, where my friend from Lachen Prem had recommended a great place to stay. Even with the temperature at 5o, I was welcomed with warmth and love.

With pleasant weather, I headed towards my next destination - Katao. And what awaited me was nothing short of spectacular - the best views of the mountain roads and snow-capped mountains, with the sky clear and the sun kissing the road. Just 8 kms from the main spot, the Khanda waterfalls in Katao, I encountered a temporary check post by the Indian Army and ITBP where we were asked to return. A salute and loads of respect to them who keep our borders safe 24x7x365 - note that Katao is in close proximity to the India-China border.

On my way back to the hotel, I enjoyed the Lachung viewpoint again, before retiring for the night, planning the next day's adventure.

North Sikkim, a land of adventure, beauty, and resilience - a place where every moment is an unforgettable experience.

Day 4 - Lachung - Ravangla

Buckle up, because this morning was a rollercoaster ride! I woke up early, eager to explore Yumthang Valley, also known as Zero Point, located near the India-China border. But Mother Nature had other plans. As I peered out of my hotel window, the entire valley was covered in a blanket of snow - and it was still snowing! I checked with the locals and was disappointed to learn that the road would only be partially open due to the bad weather.

But I'm not one to give up that easily, so I quickly moved on to Plan B - heading south to Ravangla. The road to Ravangla was a thrilling adventure, with its off-road tracks that looked like they were topped with chocolate icing! The weather surprised me with its clear skies and sunny disposition - at least until I reached a place called Rang Rang, where there was a landslide, causing me to wait for the highway folks to clear up the road. But the rain gods decided to give me a free wash from all the mud and dirt I had gathered on the ride, so it wasn't all bad!

Finally, I arrived at Ravangla around 3:30 PM and checked into a super cosy hotel - Hotel Ghakhel, owned by Mr. Bhim. Ravangla was a bigger town than Lachen or Lachung, but it did not disappoint me with its breath-taking views of the mountains.

Overall, it was an eventful day, full of unexpected twists and turns. So, if you're a fan of adventure and spontaneity, then you won't be disappointed with a trip to Lachung to Ravangla. Get ready to be amazed!

Day 5 - Ravangala - Namchi - Siliguri

Ravangla - a place where spirituality and serenity come together to create an unforgettable experience. The main attraction here is the awe-inspiring Buddha Park, complete with a magnificent monastery and a towering Buddha statue. Standing in front of this incredible sight, I couldn't help but feel a sense of humility and perspective. The monastery itself is a peaceful oasis, brimming with positive energy and good vibes. I spent a solid hour here, exploring every nook and cranny and capturing some amazing photos. Pro tip: remember that the park opens at 9:30 AM, so plan accordingly!

Next on my itinerary was Namchi, home to the famous Char Dham - a collection of temples and a must-see for any traveller seeking blessings and good karma. The highlight of the complex is undoubtedly the huge Shiva statue, flanked by a majestic Nandi. The replicas of other famous temples from all over India are also a treat to explore. I left this place feeling rejuvenated and spiritually fulfilled.

As I embarked on my last leg of the ride back to Siliguri, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the incredible journey I had been on. Despite the hectic traffic and slippery roads, I was filled with a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that I had experienced so much on this trip.

Finally, I returned the trusty Himalayan that had been my companion for the past five days, bidding farewell to Gopal and promising to return soon for more adventures in Sikkim. I settled into the Olive hotel in Siliguri, taking some time to reflect on the unforgettable journey I had just been on.

As the realization set in that it was time to return to my regular routine in Hyderabad. But I knew that the memories I had made on this trip would stay with me forever, inspiring me to keep exploring and seeking new adventures wherever life takes me.

Day 6 - Bagdogra to Hyderabad

You know what they say, all good things must come to an end. And for me, that meant bidding farewell to Bagdogra airport - not exactly a hub of excitement, but strategically important, nonetheless. I must warn you though, the security check is no joke, especially if you're carrying any electronic gadgets or charging wires. Be prepared to have everything out of your bag and ready for inspection. But don't worry, the airport staff are incredibly helpful and cooperative, so you'll be on your way in no time!

As for my journey back home from Bagdogra, it was pretty uneventful, but that was just what I needed. After all the adventures and excitement, I took the opportunity to catch up on some much-needed rest during the 2+ hour flight. And now, I'm back in the real world, recharged and ready to tackle whatever comes my way. But fear not, my fellow travel enthusiasts, for this is not the end. It's merely a pitstop, a brief respite before I embark on my next adventure, ready to create even more unforgettable memories.
