South Goa is the quieter Part of Goa. While North Goa has an abundance of beach side shacks, souvenirs shops and live music, South Goa is quiet and calm and serene.

If you are looking for a quiet vacation in Goa away from crowds, then South Goa would mesmerise you. From Quiet beaches to historical forts, from backwaters to waterfalls, from coconut tree lined roads to museums, you can have a beautiful vacation. We went on a beautiful road trip, explored a majestic waterfall , walked along serene beaches and had a peaceful vacation.

Banambudo waterfalls in the Netravalli Wildlife sanctuary is a must visit place near South Goa. Located about 50km from South Goa, the road trip to Netravalli would take you across beautiful roads lined with coconut trees , lush greenery and distant peaks of the western ghat ranges. If you are visiting this sanctuary during the monsoons you would experience the Bamanbudo waterfalls in its full glory. A trip to this sanctuary would make your soul feel refreshed!!

(2) Bubbling Lake & Waterfalls in Netravalli

Near the Netravalli wildlife sanctuary, there is a lake and a Krishna Temple that not many people know about and there would be absolutely no crowd at all. There is a mysterious temple in the temple premises. Little clusters of bubbles can be seen rising from below the surface of the emerald waters at random places. It would leave you wondering where those bubbles are coming from. Can you guess the reason behind the rising of these bubbles?

(3) Cabo De Rama Fort & Backwaters

You love exploring old ruins and is interested in a little bit of history , then you must visit this place. Initially under the Sunda Kings, this fort was taken over by the Portuguese. Inside the ruins, there is a white church dating from that era. You may walk along the boundary walls and experience the breathtaking views of the Arabian sea below. You can also climb down the flight of stony steps and explore the pebbles beach. This little beach has no sand but rocks and pebbles, fringed by cliffs and lined with coconut trees.

About a kilometer from the fort, you may walk down a flight of steps and explore the cabo de rama back waters. A quiet river stream joins the Arabian sea, lines with coconut trees on both sides. The vast sandy beach is a perfect place for long walk with a loved one.

(4)Benaulim Beach

If you want to watch the fishing boats take off into the sea across the waves, then you must visit Benaulim beach early in the morning. You can watch the sunrise and start your day with a morning walk along the coastline. In the evening this beach becomes lively with a couple of beachside shacks from where you can have some delicious Goan dinner. We had a plate of poi and Chilly prawns for dinner at this beach and it was delicious!

If you want to know about the history and culture of Goa, then you must visit this museum. There are beautiful exhibits displayed in this entire open air museum explaining the culture, professions, festivals and a lot more about Goa. You can also treat yourself with a cup of Kokum juice for Rs. 10 and buy yourself some authentic goan souvenir.

Just on the opposite side of this museum there is another museum - a 200 years old Indo Portuguese home where you would get to know about the architecture and the everyday items that were used by affluent Indo Portuguese families. If you feel fascinated by the typical Goan homes during your trip, then you would love exploring this 200 years old home.

These are my five recommendations of what you must visit on your trip to South Goa. You may also explore the Cotigao Wildlife sanctuary and the Kuske waterfalls. There are two waterfalls namely the Savri waterfalls and the Maniapi waterfalls inside the Netravalli wildlife sanctuary and you may also enjoy hiking to these waterfalls.
