A comeback blogging after a break of enjoying Parenthood. First road trip with our Angel . We had absolutely no plan of our trip.Just decided to kickstart our journey with a backpack and a car. We started from Krishnagiri towards madurai(350 km) on 3rd Dec afternoon and reached by night. We crashed in my home for night. Was eager for next day dawn to celebrate my hubby's birthday. I had prepared a short video for him carrying the memories of him with our baby girl to celebrate his first birthday as a father.
After a Short celebration with our parents we headed towards Nagercoil which was 240 km away.We got together with his friend for lunch . Nagercoil being near to the sea shore is known for its sea food . We tasted the Meen Polichathu , signature kerala dish known for cooking fish in Plantain leaf with spices and onion tomato curry . Next stop was Muttom beach 16 km from nagercoil.Beach had the trials left by the boxing day tsunami . We had planned to go to poovar for the night stay but due to unavailability of rooms we shifted our plan to tiruvandrumwhich was 80 km away from muttom beach. Poovar has excellent backwater cottages like a indian economic mauritius ialand resorts. our dinner was at Ustad hotel , a very famous hotel in kovalam .You would be greatly surprised that a 300 sqft hotel has such a elite crowd and name.Squid fry , Prawn fry and mint tea are the famous delicacies in Ustad hotel. Reached Tiruvandrum and stayed at Akhil classic which offered a decent stay .
Padmanamaswamy Temple in Tiruvandrum was our first stop in the morning. We started by 8 in the morning. The temple has darshan for specific timings from 3.30 am in the morning till 12 pm and from 5.00 pm to 7.30 pm in the evening .Devotees are sent in batch with half an hour break in between batches. We opted for 8.30 to 10 am batch. The temple is a rich heritage and architecture site . Dress code is being follwed in the temple , western outfits and salwar are not permitted for women . For men only dhoti and a towel is allowed. One can easily buy a dhoti near the temple. We checked out and were on our way to Varakala ,the only cliff beach in India. Varkala is 45 km from tiruvandrum. Our stay was at Cliff stories , a bohemian style resort . It offered a private beach experience . Lying on the hammock in the silence of the beach waves is purely mesmerising. Spent the noon in the resort . We proceeded for our dinner to north cliff which is the happening place in varakala. This place unlike other beaches was very peaceful and less crowded. The cliff is full of small resorts ,shops and restaurants. It’s a paradise of sea food in Kerala style available for you . Finishing our dinner we were back to hotel .
It was a early start for us as we had to reach Pollachi from varakala for a family function which was 370 km away . Ride from Pollachi to varakala was very difficult as the NH was almost a city traffic ride . We reached by 4 pm in the evening after a 7 hour ride . We were back to krishnagiri after the function .
The total budget was 15000 INR for the entire trip including food , stay and fuel expenses . Sometimes a unplanned trip also offers a lot more than a planned one . Once for a while go it’s good to step out off our shoes ...
