Poaching, illegal trade, hunting or ‘killing for fun’ – they’ve been subjected to it all. It was only after 2006, when the numbers reached as low as 1,411, that the concept of tiger reserves in India gained ground and tiger protection programmes were launched.

As a result of these initiatives, the numbers shot up to 1,706 in 2011, 2,226 in 2014 and 2,500 in 2016. Slowly yet steadily, India regained its reputation as one of the best places in the world to spot tigers. With 50 tiger reserves in the country, the options are plenty!
