Dudhsagar Falls is one of the highest and beautiful waterfalls in India. It is a four-tiered waterfall located on the Mandovi River and lies in the southern part of Goa towards the border of Karnataka. The falls is located in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park among the Western ghats. It is 60 km from Panaji by road and is located on the Madgaon-Belgaum rail route. Dudhsagar Falls is amongst India's tallest waterfalls with a height of 310 m (1017 feet) and an average width of 30 metres (100 feet). From a distance, the waterfall appears like streams of milk rushing down the mountainside thereby giving it a name Dudhsagar Falls. Though perennial, the beauty of the waterfall increases multi-fold during the rainy season. The falls is also famous for activities like camping and trekking.

Since we were in Goa, we decided to visit Dudhsagar falls. We set off from Baga towards Kulem which is off National Highway (NH-4A). We covered the distance of 80 KMs in 2 hours and reached Kulem where park office is located. We parked our vehicle at Kulem as private vehicles are not allowed inside the park. The trip to the falls is well organized by the local Taxi Union. We booked a Jeep to accommodate 7 of us and hired life jackets for all as it is mandatory before taking jeep near the falls. The roads leading to the waterfall, maintained by the Goa Forest Department, remain closed during the monsoon and open in October.

We boarded the jeep and started our journey towards the waterfall. After 5-10 minutes we reached the entrance of national park where we paid the entrance fee for visitors and carried on our journey. The drive through the forest was quite adventurous as the road comprises of a boulder strewn jungle track. To pass through these tracks skillful drivers are required. At various points the vehicle crossed through rivers as well with water flowing through it. These rivers will be impossible to cross during monsoon that's why roads are closed during monsoon. We had an adrenaline rush running through our veins throughout the journey. The driver told us that usually the water flow in the month of February remains very good but shortfall in monsoon season has led to a thinner waterfall like April. He also told us that this waterfall remains live across the year. After 45 minutes of arduous journey we reached the Dudhsagar Taxi Stand. The same jeep waits at the stand for return journey for one and half hour the allotted time for visitors.

We were eager to reach the falls and started our trek towards it. We covered the 1 KM trek in 15 minutes and reached the base of the waterfall. The waterfall was still live and stream of white water was flowing down the hill. The railway bridge on the hills was adding additional beauty to the scenic location. We were just imaging the beauty of this place when the flow will be at its best. The water was clean and fresh. We couldn't resist ourselves and wore the life jacket to take a plunge in the water. The waterbed near the fall is deep and it's not easy to swim out there. Life jacket is a must to have before entering the stream. We also felt the current of water flow but since we all were in life jacket we enjoyed every moment at Dudhsagar Falls. The waterbed has a lot of beautiful fishes that swim in their habitat without any hesitation or fear. We were lucky enough to see a train crossed by from the bridge which is in the middle of the fall and it was an amazing sight. Overall, a very pleasing and memorable experience.
