Named after two lakes, the twin villages of Sanasar (Sana and Sar) is located in Jammu. Sanasar is 17 km ahead of Patnitop. Also called mini Gulmarg, its picturesque landscape makes it a great spot to delve in the beauty of nature and enjoy some quiet time.
Sanasar is an eco-friendly town built in a cup-shaped meadow bordered with coniferous trees. At an altitude of 6,730 feet, Sanasar is known for sporting activities and adventure sports.
Things to do in Sanasar:
1) Adventure Sports like paragliding, trekking, rappelling, zip-lining, horse-riding, camping, rock climbing and hot air-ballooning are the key highlights of Sanasar. You can book your adventure here.
2) Visit the 600 year old Naag Mandir built primarily with wood, where thousands of Shiva worshippers pay their respects to the Naag Raja Devta.
3) Trekking - Sanasar is surrounded by several trekking paths, one of the most famous being the Ladoo Ladi nature walk. Shanta Gala pass on the Shanta Ridge is also a good trek and offers a great view of the Panchari Valley on the other side. Surni Kund is a small pond which is a seven hour trek from Sanasar.
4) Trek to the Shank Pal Temple on the Shank Pal Ridge, a five hour trek from Sanasar and take in the unique features of the temple which has been built with stone without the use of mortar.
What kind of food to expect?
Sanasar offers a variety of Indian cuisines as well as traditional and local delicacies. You can find a range of meat, herbs, homemade dairy produce with spices and exotic flavoring.

Since Sanasar is fairly remote, J&K Tourism has tourist bungalows and self-contained huts that offer modern basic facilites.
Getting There:
By Air: Jammu Airport is the closest and is 119 kilometeres away. Taxis are easily available from there.
By Train: Udhampur is the closest station at a distance of 57 kilometers.
By Road: If you are driving on your own, Sanasar is on National Highway 1-A. If you want to use public transport, buses and taxis are easily available from Jammu.
Best time to visit: May, June, September and October.
Sanasar is best clubbed with a trip to Jammu or Vishnu Devi Temple, and is slowly becoming more popular because of its adventure tourism. There are several quiet places around this hamlet where you can meditate, collect your thoughts, read a book or just chill as well.
