They say, that we often fail to appreciate what we already or easily have. This is absolutely true when it comes to travel in your own home place.
We were just lazing about (post afternoon siesta) at my husband's ancestral home at Betul, which is a quaint little coastal village in south Goa, when we thought of going for a drive. Not quite sure where we were headed to, we quickly got dressed, hopped into the car and set off. It was then that my brother in law suggested that we visit Cabo de Rama (roughly 62 km from Panjim and 30km from Margao). Now, I had been to the fort at Cabo de Rama earlier and assumed we were going to the same place.
After a drive of nearly 20 minutes through the winding roads of Canaguinim, we reached the place but this was quite different from what memory I had of Cabo de Rama. Turns out, we had reached Cabo de Rama cliff point ( different from the fort). This huge cliff had many visitors and cars parked at the edge of cliff, some just admiring the beautiful view of the vast Arabian Sea, some taking selfies and pictures. We decided to go ahead on the bumpy plateau and reached towards the end of this cliff.
We got off the car and found steps behind some bushes that go right down to the beach. We were a bit hesitant to climb down as we were traveling with toddlers, but the steps seemed decently curated. We treaded down and on the way what I saw was one of the most magical setting sun! The coconut palm tress in the foreground made it more aesthetic...like a painting. I couldn't help but pause and click a few pictures. The imprints on the sand felt like a pattern deliberately created...it was so perfect. As we reached the end of the steps, I was in for another surprise. There was a small clean water body towards the right with moss green hue water within, lined by coconut palms on both sides. It didn't seem too deep with few people having a dip in it.
Next we walked to the beach. Now being a Goan, I have been to handful of beaches. But I can vouch for this being one of the most beautiful beaches ever. The clean blue grey water of the sea, the beige sand, the line of coconut palms along the shore just makes it so gorgeous. What makes it even more beautiful is that it isn't too crowded. Infact when we reached there were just a handful of people at the beach, although it was a weekend ( compared to the visitors and cars at the cliff point), which means it is definitely a kid friendly destination. Carrying a light snack will always prove handy, although there are a couple of small shacks at the beach.
So the next time you are around, you can just sit here and witness this sight that I'm sure is going to be etched in your memories forever ( it sure did in mine). Better still, carry a picnic, go for a swim in the sea and spend an entire day here. You won't regret it!
