Diskit is small village in Nubra valley, It is 120 km from Leh city and is situated on the bank of shyok river. Diskit is famous for its Monastery and sand dunes.
Best time to visit :
June till October is considered the best time to visit.
I travelled in April and it was beginning of tourist season but this is mostly dry season.
How to reach :
Bike :
The most affordable choice of travel is by bike, The road from Leh city to Diskit village is quite good. BRO has done a really good job in constructing roads throughout the remotest part of Ladakh. The ride will be a three and half hour journey through the world's 2nd highest motorable paas Khardung la pass. Renting a bike will cost 2k per day.
Taxi :
I will not suggest taking a taxi if you know how to ride a bike in rough terrain. Taxi service is very expensive in Ladakh,
It cost around 31k for a three night 4 day trip to Nubra valley. Which covers Turtuk, Diskit, Hunder and Pangong lake.
For taxis it also takes the same amount of time to reach Diskit as terrain is mostly hilly and traffic is slow.
Where to stay :
There are a lot of homestay and guest houses available in Diskit. It is a small town with almost everything of basic needs.
What to do :
Visit the famous Diskit Monastery and enjoy the 360 ° view of nubra valley. Take pictures with the tallest Buddha statue which is 106 feet. The monastery is among the oldest Monasteries in India, also visiting the part of Monastery where monks live.
You can also stay in a monastery but the facilities will be basic.
Atv ride :
Go for the famous white sand Atv ride, it is a one of a kind thrilling experience. It cost 1200 for two people.
Go- karting:
Go-karts are also available at the entrance of Diskit village. The tracks are good and it is a really enjoyable experience compared to cities like Bangalore or Delhi.
