For a perfect getaway, choose Bir for a long weekend. Summers are pleasant, and a touch of snow graces peak winters. Our top pick? September to November, where the temperature hovers between a comfortable 7 to 33°C, striking the right balance between warmth and chill.
To reach Bir, head to Delhi or Chandigarh first. The most convenient route is an overnight bus journey from both cities.
Delhi to Bir: Numerous buses, local and government, operate from Majnu ka Tila or Kashmere Gate Bus Stand. Prices range from INR 1200 to 1500, depending on comfort and season.
Chandigarh to Bir: Direct buses from Chandigarh ISBT take 7 to 8 hours, costing around INR 1050. Easy peasy!
The Temple, The Monastery, and The Sky
Our first stay in Bir was at the most amazing Zostel Plus in Bir. We kick-started our Bir escapade with a dash of spirituality at Baijnath Temple. The ancient vibes and intricate carvings set the perfect tone.
Next stop - Sherabling Monastery! Zooming around on rented bikes (which was 700rs a day), the wind in our hair, we soaked in the serenity. Monks, prayer flags, and the mountains – a total zen mode unlocked.
But the real adventure? Paragliding from Billing to the landing site. Flying like birds, we touched the sky, and that landing spot doubled as the most epic sunset point.
Dinner was some hot South-Indian food at Cafe Avva's. Warm meals & full hearts! What a day!
(We booked for our paragliding through Zostel)
Waterfalls, River Pools, and Hobbit Homes
Then next a hidden waterfall trek got our hearts pounding. We enquired at the Zostel reception and added the location Nature's waterfall resort and set on our bikes. On reaching there, there were guides who took us to the hidden waterfall. (It's better to have a guide along, as the trek can get a bit tricky & that costed us 300rs pp). The sound of gushing water and the thrill of the unknown was the highlight!
Hiking to the Gunehar River Pool was next. Crystal-clear water and a bit of Hobbit magic – our AirBnB was a legit Hobbit house! Frodo would've been proud.
We spent the day at the Hobbit house with the most wholesome Lunch cooked by the caretaker. And in the evening a walk to the landing point was a must, and for dinner? Himachali Dham – at Yours truly Zostel's cafe, Olive Kitchen.
Trek Tales
Today was all about stretching our legs. After a hearty breakfast at The Hobbit, we laced up our shoes and hit the trails for a trek to Hanumangarh.
The trek was like a giant stair-master, but surrounded by tall trees and chirping birds. Every step felt like an achievement, and the view from the top? Spectacular.
After soaking in the mountain vibes, we descended to head to Rajgunda. Winding paths, fresh mountain air, and glimpses of the valley below. After such an adventurous day, we just crashed on our beds at TLO Hostel.
Café Chills and Tibetan Treasures
Our Day started with the most amazing breakfast at the Silver Linings Cafe. A laid-back day awaited us at Cafe 360. Sipping chai, gazing at the Dhauladhar range – pure bliss. And of course, we couldn't resist some shpooing in the Bir Tibetan Colony.
As we checked out, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the simplicity and charm of Bir. Until next time, Bir – you stole our hearts!
Note: Travel with an open heart, and you'll find the magic in every corner!
