Day 1

Day 1

It's very hard to describe North Sikkim in words but still I will try to give every details and also describe about North Sikkim.

As I have mentioned this was my yaari wali trip because first time I stepped out from my home to some place where I never discussed about never checked out anywhere and never thought it will be so beautiful with my best friends without any proper planning. We just wanted to go some hills and we ended up with 3 places, within a week we booked our cab and hotel but due to instant plan we couldn't book train tickets. Our journey was for 4 days which included Lachung,Lachen and Gangtok.

We started our journey from kolkata to New Jalpaiguri which is near by station for Darjeeling as well as Sikkim. As we had some discussions about traveling and time was limited we had to reach Sikkim by morning 9 so that we can reach our destination on time. We left with no option since we traveled at peak time our journey started with general tickets. It is better to travel by train if you are travelling with low budget or else you can take flight, but bus can never be a good option because they say bus will reach by morning 6/7 but it never reaches. If you are taking train it is always recommended to take train in such a time so that you can reach New Jalpaiguri by morning 5/6. After reaching to New Jalpaiguri station we took a share cab for Gangtok since it was within our budget. For share cab they charge Rs 500/person and small cabs like (swift desire) they charge Rs 3500 in peak time.

We reached Gangtok by morning 9, as we were having less time on same day we went to Lachen. We had conversation with our guide already and shared our photos as well as Adhar card details as this are mandatory for Pass. After reaching Gangtok you need to take Sikkim association cab and for north Sikkim they have different groups. Basically our cab driver himself was our guide for complete trip, If you are travelling to North Sikkim please visit Lachen.

Day 2

Day 2

After we reached to Lachen, we had our dinner at hotel and next day we started for Gurudongmar Lake at 4AM which is 65 km away as gate of Lake closed by 10AM so our Driver suggested to start early. We reached our destination at 8:30AM and it was most beautiful lake I have ever seen. Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 5,430 m (17,800 ft). One should carry oxygen pumps or Camphor as height is too much where Oxygen level is very low. The best time to visit Gurudongmar Lake is from March until June as the weather is pleasant and one can see clear crystal blue skies, with lush greenery in the surroundings along with beautiful and divine Gurudongmar Lake. The temperature during these months fluctuates between 5°C / - 5°C. Well said by someone, If you visit Gurudongmar Lake you will feel like you are visiting Pangong Lake(Ladakh). After Gurudongmar Lake, we went to Kala Pathar which is hidden Gem of North Sikkim which is 186 km away from Gurudongmar Lake. The place was fully covered with snow and the drive to this place was awesome. The roads are bad but it's worth going. It started snowing when we reached there and was a bonus enjoying snowfall in the month of May end. One should visit both places if going to Lachen.

Day 4

Day 4

After yumthang valley we had our lunch at mid way and returned to Gangtok. Due to very less time we had only one evening to roam around Gangtok, so we went to very famous MG Market and had our dinner. We have done some shopping from market also one can purchase some home decoration items. We booked Tag Along Backpackers hostel and it was amazing, facilities 5/5, room 5/5, cleanliness 5/5 and they have provided breakfast for next day as complementary and it costs only Rs 800/bed as we were in group so we booked 4 bed dorm room and it was super comfortable

Day 5

So this was our last day and time to return, it is advisable to book cab one day before as in vacation time it is nearly impossible to get cab from stand if you go by 11AM. Bus takes Rs 70 for New Jalpaiguri where as shared cab charges Rs 1000 for new Jalpaiguri station. And personnel Cab charges Rs 3000 (small) and Rs 4000 (big) and prices may vary as per demand. We waited for nearly 2-3 hours and finally booked one cab and returned to New jalpaiguri Bus stand. Bus charges Rs 1000 from New Jalpaiguri to Kolkata and it takes more than 10 hours to reach due to heavy traffic so it is highly recommended to take train for returning as well.
