A week in God's Own Country "Kerala"

We started from Mumbai and had already reserved a train ???? Netravati Express from LTT to Cochin (Ernakulam junction).

Way of Travel :

By Air : Take a flight to Cochin and book nearby hotels for stay.

By Train : Check your Train availability to Cochin Ernakulam.

After a day journey with beautiful views of coconut trees all around on entering Kerala state we were welcomed in Cochin by Kerala tours & travels guide.

I will definitely suggest this guide whose name is Shankar from Kerala tours & travels because he has a great driving techniques, know all places, suggests local restaurants by place speciality, also guides us the markets from where we can shop and good in communication too.

The day we started tour to famous Athirapally waterfalls (Bahubali movie scene waterfall) if you remember.

It took around 2-3 hrs to reach Thrisur, on the way we find out Tyre, rubber and palm trees.

The view to waterfalls was breathtaking from far and we need to trek down (30-45 mins) to reach bottom of the falls and to witness beauty of nature, droplets of water where thrown on our body because of full waterfall pressure on rocks down.

Just sat there little bit away and relax with amazing view lyk a treat to eyes.

Same day we went back to Munnar by evening and checked in hotel.

Athirapally to Munnar (4 hrs - 130km)

Early morning view was breathtaking beautiful with Tea mountain gardens around total greenery giving fresh air away from city pollution.

This day sightseeing includes visit to

1. Mattupetty Lake & Dam for boating

2. Kundala dam, Eco-point, Top station.

3. Indo-Swiss cattle farm.

4. The sprawling tea plantations and picturesque town.

5. The Rajamalai and Eravikulam National Park.

Evening Return to the Hotel and Overnight stay at Munnar.

Munnar to Thekkady (120km - 3 hrs)

After Breakfast drived to Thekkady. It is set in the heart of the Cardamom and Pepper Hills of kerala and is otherwise the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve.

We went to elephant farm where we enjoyed elephant ride, gave bath to elephant and food too. It was my dream to do so and got fulfilled which you can feel from pics below.

On Evening we reached hotel and later on we went to enjoy kerala dance and martial arts show, later on followed by Kathakalli act.

Thekkady to Alleppy (145 kms - 3.5 hrs)

After breakfast we drived to Backwaters city Alleppy.

On the way we halted at Pattumalay Tea Factory plant to check the process of making tea powder from its plant.

They charge 150 rs each to visit the plant followed by guide orientation giving details of the process.

Later afternoon, we reached our Houseboat Alleppy.

Booking can be done online :

It costs around 10-15k for full day houseboat.

The scenes and pics which we see in books, on web etc.. are really in front of us and gave us a glimpse of excitement as houseboat moved on its way.

Each houseboat has one driver and one cook with all facilities inside like a hotel.

Evening had a halt and the day was to relax, enjoy and have a delicious dinner.

Alleppey to Trivandrum (165 km - 4hrs)

After breakfast we drived to Kovalam.

After Arrival this day was free to enjoy at the beautiful Kovalam beach and Overnight stay near beach hotel.

Also visited the lighthouse which was famous in the city Beach. The view of the full city was amazing from top.

This day was visit to Trivandrum sight-seeing :

1. Napier Museum Zoo

2. Sri Chitra Art Gallery

3. Sri Padmanabha Temple

4. Horse Palace (Kudraimaligai), Veli Lagoon

Evening we went to Poovar Island, it's one of the amazing place that has less tourists.

A boat ride in the island with stunning views, floating restaurants and beach sand between island all four corners surrounded by sea.

Trivandrum to Kanyakumari (90 km - 2.5 hrs)

This day was visit to :

1. Kanyakumari Beach

2. Vivekananda rock memorial.

3. Arulmigu Bhagavathy Amman Temple

4. Kanyakumari sunrise view
