“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week”
-George Patton
The film industry, be it Hollywood or Bollywood, has surely spoilt us with picturizing the quintessential college trips with friends. Cruising through scenic terrains as the melodious tunes of ‘khwaabon ke parindey’ play in the background has perhaps become the most sought-after element in every road-trip with friends, at least for the Bollywood film fanatics. Perhaps my friends and I were no different, being privy to the same ideas and romanticised getaways which seldom included any objections from parents.
However, our #LastMinute trip was nothing akin to Aakash, Sameer, and Sid’s spontaneous trip to Goa (Dil Chahta Hai reference). We were not three independent, rich boys driving to Goa on a fine morning, without a worry in the world. We were just a group of 5 girls hailing from rather protective families, sitting outside our college canteen, thinking how our lives had become monotonous. We were seeking some adventure, some excitement, perhaps a new scenery, whatever little that we could afford from our positions.
It was this hunger for travel that motivated us to visit the nearest Wonder of the World the very next day! A few convincing phone calls to our parents, a few arguments and a few pleadings later we were making our way to Nizamuddin Railway Station the next morning. With a one-way ticket in hand to Agra and an erratically planned itinerary, we were undoubtedly the most excited bunch on that train.
Our gang of girls, brimming with excitement and anticipation, arrived at Agra a little after 10 AM. The 4-hour long journey in sleeper class could do little to fatigue us or drain our energies. Without further ado, we headed straight to witness the glorious Taj Mahal before anything else.
Even on that hot Wednesday morning, the Taj looked as magnificent as we had seen it in pictures. Marvelling over the architecture, walking around the mausoleum and photographing endless memories consumed us completely. After all, that was all that we were desiring the previous day and our disbelief to have finally scaled the distance ignited us to be the explorers and wanderers that we wished to be.
We spent the latter half of the day roaming around Agra Fort, shopping for jhumkas at Sadar Bazaar, and devouring petha from the famous Panchhi Petha store.
However, all beautiful things must come to a halt and before we knew it, it was time for us to return. With quenched souls, now seemingly tired also, and happy bellies filled with mouth-watering street food, we boarded Gatiman Express to take us back to our hometown, Delhi, until next time.
