We started from Delhi and our route was as follows :
Delhi – Patnitop – Srinagar – Sonmarg – Kargil – Drass – Leh – Pangong – Nubra Valley – Khardungla Pass – Leh – Kargil – Sonmarg – Delhi
Till Srinagar you actually don't feel the the thrill of the road journey but as soon as you hit sonmarg you start seeing beauty around - in form of ice, river , greenery, hills, flowers everything and honestly when you have been travelling for more than 24 hours – first view of ice or rivers is good enough to make you jump with joy :)
Overall the route is almost magical, there is a 25 kms of stretch where you have company of a bful stream all through the way.
One of the most bful sight on this trip was of Pangong Lake, you can actually see 3 different shades of blue and it actually takes your breath away. Do stay there overnight, just gaze the starry sky (Unfortunately we couldn't stay but it's a must do).
Nubra Valley is one place where you get to see white sand desert and snow clad mountains in the same frame, but unfortunately when we went there- it was quite hot.
I truly believe in this quote - "its better to travel than to arrive" and it holds true when it comes to this route. Besides regular tourist spots, you will find the most incredible sceneries...stop at places, take a dip in river, have roadside tea, gaze at mountains, discovers constellations and just be one with nature.
