India is indeed a mysterious country and no matter how much you travel to explore, it is possible that you never get to see it all! There's so much tucked at every corner that a traveller's bucket list seems to stretch on and on. Having said that, we have to admit that a lot of places are stealing the limelight these days and tourists are flocking to certain destinations, for example, a biking trip in Ladakh or Spiti Valley, a beach-vacay in Goa or Gokarna, or a royal getaway in Jaipur or Udaipur.
But there are certain experiences that aren't too mainstream yet, and they're priceless! Here are 10 incredible 'non-touristy' things will actually show you the real India.
1. Wander around the streets of Varanasi and watching life pass by!
2. Spend a morning at the ghats of Rishikesh and enjoy the serenity of River Ganga.
3. Binge on the street food in Delhi, give your taste buds a jolt!
4. Walk around the morning flower market in Mallick Ghat, Kolkata, and soak in the bright shades!
5. Explore the nature trails at Chorao Island, Goa, and go for birding!
6. Experience the Alleppey backwaters on a Kerala State Waterways ferry instead of the popular houseboats.
7. Watch the sunset at Tso Moriri in Ladakh and ditch the crowded Pangong Lake.
8. Spend a few days at the lesser known Rushikulya Beach, Odisha, known for being one of the most important Olive Ridley Sea Turtle nesting grounds in the world.
9. Beyond Havelock & Neil Islands in Andamans, head to Barren Island - home to India’s only active, often erupting volcano.
(You can catch the view of the flowing lava only via chartered boats with the permission of forest department)
10. Opt for a sunset walk by the Cauvery River in Kabini - you can witness elephants, bison and nature at its best form, with uninterrupted views stretching till the horizon, instead of taking a safari which is too mainstream and crowded usually!
