If you ask me which is my favourite month, it has got to be February! It’s that one month when the weather is just bout perfect for being outdoors. It makes for the perfect time to go sightseeing at architectural wonders like Hawa Mahal, Taj Mahal and Amber Fort. All of these are impossible to explore in the scorching heat of March-April nor in the biting winters of November-January. This small window is also perfect for activities like skiing, rafting and trekking.
To top it up its festivals galore in India in February. It's the month when India is bustling with festivities, some of my favourites are Mahashivratri, Kumbh Mela, and Rann Utsav. What better way to explore any region, than celebrating their traditions together? Owing to the summer holidays, February also isn’t the most popular time for tourists. Which only means less crowd & better prices!
Well if all of these reasons haven’t gotten you packing, I bet my list of best Indian destinations to explore in February 2024 will spike that wanderlust in you.

1. Goa
The beaches of Goa are a must-visit during February as the weather is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. The state is also known for its vibrant nightlife and delicious seafood. The temperature during this month ranges from the mid-20s to the low-30s (Celsius). As it is not peak season, prices for hotels, flights, and other travel expenses tend to be lower during February. This will allow you to stretch your budget further and make the most of your trip. Indulge in water sports like parasailing, jet skiing, and scuba diving as the sea is calm during this month, making it safe for these activities. It's the month of Carnival, a three-day festival of music, dance, and colourful floats that takes place in Panaji and other towns across Goa.

2. Jaipur, Rajasthan
The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is known for its beautiful palaces and forts, including the famous Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort. February is a great time to visit as the weather is pleasant, making it easy to explore the city's many landmarks. February is a good time to indulge in shopping as the prices tend to be lower during this month, go on and check out some traditional textiles, jewellery and handicrafts. After the tiring shopping spree fuel yourself with local delicacies like dal bati churma, laal maas and gatte ki sabzi. Look out for the dates for the Elephant Festival, an annual event that features a parade of decorated elephants, traditional music and dance performances, and elephant polo matches.

3. Kerala
Kerala is known for its stunning backwaters and lush greenery. February is the perfect time to visit as the monsoon season is over. With low humidity and cool breeze, making it ideal for exploring the many beautiful landscapes and backwaters of the state. February is a good time to visit places like Alleppey, Kumarakom, and Kollam. Here indulge in water sports like kayaking, canoeing and houseboat cruises. 4. Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Agra is home to the iconic Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. While you are here do visit the Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a great place to learn about the history of the Mughal Empire. The fort contains several palaces, courtyards, and gardens, and provides a great view of the Taj Mahal. While you are here don’t forget to visit the "Baby Taj," Itimad-ud-Daulah's Tomb is a mausoleum made of white marble and is considered a precursor to the Taj Mahal. The intricate carvings and inlay work on the marble are worth seeing. All that sightseeing will surely make you hungry, head to the local bazaars and taste some traditional sweets like petha and gajak.

5. Varanasi
Varanasi, also known as Benares or Kashi, is one of the most sacred cities in India and is a must-visit for those interested in Hinduism. it's the month of Mahashivratri, a Hindu festival that celebrates the god Shiva. The city comes alive during this festival, with many religious and cultural events taking place, such as processions, music and dance performances, and prayers at the temples. You can also witness the grand spectacle of the Khumb Mela, which is being held at Prayagraj, just about 2 hours away from Varanasi. This city will take you on an unforgettable spiritual ride!

6. Rann of Kutch, Gujarat
The Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in Gujarat. During February, the Rann Utsav festival takes place, which features cultural performances, traditional crafts, and delicious local food. It's a great opportunity to experience the local culture and natural beauty of the region. It is also home to a variety of wildlife, including the Indian wild ass, desert fox, and several species of birds. You can take a jeep safari to see the wildlife and also enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the desert. Additionally, the Rann of Kutch is known for its traditional handicrafts, particularly its block printing and embroidery. Explore the local bazaars and shops to find a wide variety of traditional textiles and handicrafts to take back home.

7. Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are an archipelago located in the Bay of Bengal. The islands are known for their beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and diverse marine life, making them popular tourist destinations. February is the perfect time to visit as the weather is pleasant and the sea is calm, making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. And if you aren’t one for underwater adventure, go for a wildlife safari. The islands are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, deer, and several species of birds. If relaxing by the beach is more your vibe, then do visit Radhanagar Beach, Elephanta Beach and Kalapathar Beach. Whatever you choose to do, you’ll definitely go home wanting to come back real soon!

8. Udaipur, Rajasthan
Known as the "City of Lakes," Udaipur is home to several beautiful lakes and palaces. February is a great time to visit as the weather is mild and the city comes alive during the annual Shilpgram Festival, which features traditional arts and crafts. One of the main attractions of Udaipur is its beautiful lakes, such as Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake. Take a boat ride on these lakes to see the beautiful palaces, temples, and gardens that line their shores. Lake Pichola is home to the famous Jag Mandir palace and the Lake Palace, which are now converted into luxury hotels. Another popular attraction in Udaipur is the City Palace, a grand palace complex that houses several museums, courtyards, and gardens. You must explore the palace to learn about the history and culture of Udaipur and see the beautiful architecture and intricate carvings.

9. Sikkim
Known for its picturesque landscapes, diverse culture, and rich biodiversity, Sikkim makes for a great choice to visit in February. February is the perfect time to visit Sikkim as the weather is mild and pleasant, making it ideal for trekking and outdoor activities. Visit popular landmarks like Tsomgo Lake, Nathu La Pass, and the Kanchenjunga National Park, while you are here. If you’d like to explore the great outdoors some popular treks in February are the Goecha La trek, the Dzongri trek, and the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek. Leaving the best reason, for the last! Losar festival is an annual one-of-a-kind festival. If you are planning a trip to Sikkim, do try and plan it around Losar festivities.

Assam
February is a good time to visit Assam as it's the month of the Maghi Purnima festival, an annual event that celebrates the full moon night and is celebrated with traditional music, dance, and food. But the festivities aside, one can’t just come to Assam and not visit Kaziranga National Park! Known for its diverse wildlife, including one-horned rhinoceroses, elephants, tigers, and many species of birds. February also happens to be the best time to visit the tea gardens, imagine pleasant weather a cup of warm tea and in front of you are green fields and majestic mountains! Now for some adventure activity head over to Bhramaputra for a river cruise.
