A place where you can sniff purity in the air,
A place where the eyes marvel over visual magic,
A place where gentle noises of nature tease your ears,
And a place where the soul finds utmost solace.
I have really been fortunate to visit Iceland in all four seasons. Icelandic nature brings in a different kind of beauty in every season, but winters bring in the most magical of them all - Aurora Borealis aka the Northern Lights.
A quick 5 hour 30 minute flight from the eastern coast of USA to the Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, we reached Iceland in the wee hours of the morning. While the air was pure, there was chill in the air. We directly headed to the geothermal spa to enjoy the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon to relax and overcome flight fatigue.
The drive from the airport to the Blue Lagoon was absolutely beautiful and the views were breathtaking at every corner.
We were in awe at the first sight of the Blue Lagoon and then getting into the warm waters in the midst of snow and chill air was extremely soothing and teleport-ed us into an invisible heaven.
Spent a few hours in the lagoon relaxing and it was time to hit the road for an amazing circuit road trip to cover various waterfalls, empty snow expanses, and even glaciers.
We were driving along with no one around and suddenly we ran into pure bred Icelandic horses. They are known for their short sizes , beautiful manes, and heavy double layer coats that help withstand the frigid Icelandic weather.
Then we headed to a nice cozy and quaint home-stay in the midst of majestic snow capped mountains.
We took it easy the rest of the day enjoying the silence of such a surreal place.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early and set out to explore a few beautiful waterfalls. There was so much beauty everywhere that I just could not stop posing.
Drove more than 1500 Kilometres discovering the enchanting scapes of Iceland. They was beauty at every corner and it was so hard to abstain from clicking.
We witnessed beautiful dawns, warm sun hovering at a low horizon even at mid day exuding perfect light for great pictures, and picturesque dusks making the vacation just perfect.
At nights we got super lucky to have witnessed the northern lights streaking all across the sky with their luminous greens and pastels as if the creator was on a mission to showcase his art in the sky to us visitors.
We even had a chance to walk on the glacier at Jokulsarlon, ride in the glacier lagoon and also sit on icebergs and pose for pictures...
Ended up clicking more than 2000 pictures, and a lifetime of vivid memories frozen in the mind.
I cannot wait for my fifth trip to Iceland!
