Bir is a small village located in the Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh and Billing is the paragliding launch site located about 14 km north of Bir. It is at an elevation of 8000ft above sea level. Bir Billing is famous for Paragliding but it also offers other activities as well like Camping, Trekking, Mountain Biking.
How To Reach?
By Air- A flight from Delhi to Dharamshala is an expensive option. Since you will have to take a taxi or cab to Bir.
By Train- There isn't any direct railway connectivity to Bir. Take a train from Delhi to Pathankot. From there you can board a bus or take a toy train to Paprola. Hire a cab to Bir from Paprola.
By Bus- The most affordable option for Bir Billing is to take a bus from Delhi to Baijnath. Take a cab from Bajinath to Bir.
By Road- If you love to drive on your own it is the best option to choose. Delhi to Bir is a 514 km, Overnight Journey.
Most travelers organization their trip to Bir Billing by keeping Dharamshala, Mcleodganj, or Palampur as their base. The buses are easily available at regular intervals to Bir Billing from these two points. Also, you can hire Bikes and Scooters too. for approx 600-1200Rs per day.
Cost & Duration Of Flight?
The approximate cost for Tandem Paragliding (i.e. Instructor+Passenger) is INR 3000. The flight journey will last from 15 to 30 minutes depends on weather and air condition. There will be additional charges for video shooting or photographs to be taken.
Best Time To Go Paragliding?
Good - January and February. A plus point is that you get to see snow-capped mountains but the cool air and temperature don't always allow a paraglider to maintain height.
Better - March till June. But keep in mind that flights can get called off if the winds are too strong and don't cooperate. You'll either have to wait till it calms down or come again the next day.
Best - To witness the magic of clear blue skies and gorgeous views of the Dhauladhar ranges October to mid-December is the best time to go.
