Trip to Kasol, Himachal Pradesh
You want to become backpacker then Kasol is your destination. It is renowned for backpackers coming from UK, EUROPE, Israel and other countries. Unlike places like Shimla and Dharamshala which are already famous destination among Indians (even more for newly married couples). However in the last years, there has been an increase in the influx of Indians in Kasol.
Kasol, the moment you hear this word, the first thing which comes to your mind is “marijuana, cannabis’, but wait don’t judge the place already; there is more to this place.
3 things to do when in Kasol:
1) Stay at chalal- cut off from actual Kasol, small village called chalal located around 30 min trek away. On the way, you can enjoy the cold breeze from the river flowing next to your path. While you are trekking to reach your hotel/café you would see people camping near the river bank. Rates of hotels are decent starting from Rs 300 to 1000. In this amount, one can get a decent bed to spend the night and good food to keep your stomach full.
2) Eat at evergreen- You have to eat here that is the only option. You might have to wait for half an hour to get a table, but it’s worth it. This is one of the renowned restaurants where one can enjoy the meal with an amazing view of hills.

3) Trek in Malana- Don’t be offended if people don’t offer you water here. Malana is different from other Indian villages you must have visited. It has a historical significant to it. Some consider malana as one of the oldest democracies in the world. Malanis love their culture and don’t like outsiders who come here. If you visit malana, there are strict rules one has to follow- outsiders are not allowed to touch the house wall, belonging or people and if you do, you will be asked to pay a fine and a lamp would be sacrificed to purify anything you touched.
Best season to visit Kasol is September to November, when you can sit out in your hotel balcony and enjoy the sun with an amazing view of mountains and river.
