If you haven't, must visit during your next trip. This is the largest and the most densely populated area of the city of Srinagar.
The buildings and monuments found in the area reflect the design of old times and literally takes you to old times.
Must visit places in this area:
1. JAMIA MASJID:
This Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Sikandar in 1394 CE and completed in 1402 CE. This is regarded as one of the most important mosques in Kashmir. This Indo-Saracen architecture is designed with 370 wooden pillars and a splendid courtyard, amazing architecture for sure!
This mosque has existed since 1400 A.D. and it remains as glorified as till today.
2. SHAH-E-HAMADAN
This is one of the most peaceful places, you will visit in Srinagar. The place has such amazing, calming vibe. It is said that the mosque was originally built in 1359 and underwent reconstruction in 1732.
Other than visiting these places, you can just walk around the area to get the feel of the city. You will find old wooden houses and lots of bakeries selling fresh bread & other stuff!
Many people visiting Srinagar thinks that downtown is not safe, but I must tell you that I went there solo and spend a lot of time and felt absolutely safe.
