This trip of ours had been so unusual, unexpected and adventurous that even our tour operator hadn't witnessed so many events in one trip!! All thanks to the crew which kept us fed at all intervals with amazing food!! WITH GREAT FOOD COMES GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS!!! :D
A wonderful hill station, a beauty of its own!! The best way to get to know its surroundings is through Self exploration and not through PACKAGE trips!! Hotel- Page 3 Altitude: 5,900ft
Visited a small restaurant owned by an old couple had our snacks and MAGGI, which was banned all over India! Felt like a rebel!! :D
A misty village with places to eat, stay and a beautiful temple on top of a hill...The settlements are seasonal, with most businesses closing for winter.
Pretty good roads with a superb view of the valley and one can enjoy this to the utmost level with his cycle!! La aka pass are snowy passes through mountain ranges, but this one is highly influenced by tourists and by lots of them, with dirty snow, traffic.. :(
A windy village right down the valley, this village gets so cold during the winters that people move to a lower altitude before the winter set in!! :0
One green town in the Lahaul valley!! The view of waterfall across the river and opposite the town is locally known as Palden Lhamo dhar.
A place with few shops providing food and shelter in front of the Tandi bridge.
One of the important villages on the highway with hospitals, houses and also a market with FOOOD!! Had home made mutton momos and noodles. At the market one finds a pretty big Mani wheel!!
A village along side the river, a perfect place for camp fire along side the mountaineers' hut!
A man-made lake right in front of our camp site known as Patseo, a place with just one shelter which provides food for the travelers!! A place worth travelling for!!
Halted at Bharatpur for lunch... and continued our journey to Sarchu,a major halt point right on the border of HP and J&K. A place definitely not for the FAINT HEARTED!!
Originally known as Biskey Nala but hey who hates Whiskey!! :P One barren land which leads to the Hauntingly beautiful Gata loops. Bridge had broken down -> traffic on the highway, delayed our climb by half a day or so!! Helped the army to control the traffic and also laid the sheets to build the bridge alongside the soldiers, who gave a final test to check whether the bridge was stable using a JCB!!! Like a BOSS!!
A place where one should never use the army truck tracks!! One can climb the loops quicker that way but will also gain altitude real fast leading to AMS!! The loops start with one of a kind temple where travelers should offer a bottle of drinking water, you can easily spot it with the piles of water bottles lying around the shrine. I hope the main purpose is to serve lost souls travelling these unforgiving landscapes!!
Its hard to believe our eyes to see huge plains of land right in the middle of world's biggest mountain ranges!! We were so lucky that we had to view this beauty right during the sunset, A mesmerizing place accompanied by the dying light of the sun!! Drove an off road track for the next 3 kms to reach our camping site for the night in the Plains of More...
Considered as the World's second highest pass will for sure test your nerves when cycling. With a slow, steady pace one can easily conquer this pass!! These regions will test you mentally as well as physically but its all worth the view one acquires from the top of the pass :D On the bright side the range will gift you with an amazing downhill till Rumptse with perfect roads and cool winds!! :)
A beautiful village with traditional houses, crop fields and the ancient remains of the place once stood high on these grounds!! This village was one of the very few places which had a phone booth and obviously you need to expect a pretty huge queue at the booth!!
We start from Rumptse with just a couple of hours cycling to reach our 12 day journey's destination,Leh to find ourselves in front of these rapids engulfing the entire road as a piece of CAKE!! We had to carry our cycles crossing the rapids on wet, pointy rocks...The final push towards Leh was indeed the most dangerous and adventurous one through out our entire trip!!
The gate way to heaven!! ehh I meant Shyok and Nubra valley!:P A 40 km complete uphill ride thee most challenging ride in our journey. The views are magnificent as we wind our way higher and higher away from Leh. The first half of the ride is tarmac and the last half is rough road.It had started snowing exactly the moment we reached South pullu!! From the top we are rewarded with close-up views ahead of the Karakorums, while behind us the Ladakh and Zanskar mountains seem to stretch forever. It was literally HELL let loose for my team mates as we push harder towards the top!! We were perfectly alright with the thin air present in these passes as we had spent our whole journey on mountains.. we had a fantastic downhill ride back to Leh - a great reward for all the hard work that morning!! Altitude:18,380ft
