Bir, famous for paragliding, is a hill station located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It's a perfect weekend getaway to take from Delhi or Chandigarh. Let's take you through the itinerary of what can you do in this beautiful town of Bir.
Reach Bir and take some rest at your accommodation. After that, go for breakfast at June 16 café or silver linings café.
Now, start your journey by hiking to Bangoru waterfall. For this, make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes that will also get wet. To reach here, hire a cab or rent a scooty and park your vehicles at the parking lot which will be the starting point.
The waterfall that will come first is Gunehar Waterfall which is a small waterfall. After that, the hike to Bangoru waterfall starts. The hike is difficult as the terrain is rocky and that's why you have to hire a guide. Make sure you bargain with them and bring down the cost to INR 100-150 for one person. Reach the waterfall and spend some time there.
After returning, take some rest and then go for paragliding in the evening. Sunset is one of the best times to do paragliding. After landing, enjoy the sunset from the landing site. Eat dinner at Vairagi cafe or Mafia cafe which marks an end to day 1.
This day will include exploring monasteries. Start with Sherabiling monastery which is around 7 km from Bir. The route to the monastery is surrounded by trees and is so scenic and beautiful. After that, visit Chokling Monastery, Deer Park Institute, Nyingma Monastery and Tsering Jong Monastery.
When done exploring monasteries, eat lunch at café cloud door or Himalayan monk cafe. Then head towards Mata Maheshwari temple in the evening. This temple is around 6 km from Bir. First, reach Ahju village and ask a local to the starting point of the hike to the temple. The hike to the temple goes through a jungle of pine trees and takes around 30-40 minutes to reach the top.
Once you reach the top, take a right to reach Mata Maheshwari temple. After offering your prayers, climb to the top of the temple to watch the sunset and 360-degree view of the city. If possible, stay till it gets dark and watch the city light up which looks so magical. After returning to Bir, go for stargazing either from Landing site or rooftop of your stay.
And this concludes day 2.
On your last day, begin your morning by taking a walk at Suja village or Keori village.
After having breakfast, go to Baijnath temple which is around 12.7 km from Bir and offer your prayers there. Return to Bir and take a walk around the Bir market, have some lunch and shop for local souvenirs.
And that’s it, pack your bags and memories to make the journey back home.
