Mcleodganj- dharamshala- Bhakhra Nangal Dam- Anandpur Sahib
You can start your journey from Inter-state Bus Terminus, Kashmere Gate, Delhi, Volvo to Mcleodganj Bus stand. It would take almost 12 hours to reach.
I travelled with my family and took Innova to enjoy this whole journey. I left from a city in Uttar Pradesh near Delhi and reached McLeodganj in almost 10 hours.
As soon as I reached, I slept for few hours and started my day by visiting St. John's Church. Backside of the church has beautiful view of green mountains.
Besides its mythological significance, you can click some spectacular shots in front of stone walls and pillars in the church.
The next place to visit is Dal lake. It's a man-made lake. You can sit next to it in peace, click some interesting pictures.
The lake is small and don't expect it to be very beautiful. But I would recommend you to visit there.
Just opposite to the lake there are two temples where you can visit.
After this, you may visit the local market.
The weather in summers starts getting cold at around 5:30 in the evening. When you're in the lap of nature don't forget to feel every bit of it.
The next day you can cover Tsuglagkhang complex which includes Namgyal Monastery,
Tibetan museum, Dalai lama temple. This will take around one and a half hour to cover all the three places.
While coming back you can go aorund in the market. After coming back take rest in the hotel.
The next destination to cover is Bhagsunag falls. You can start the trek at around 5 (because of heat of the sun) and you will take maximum 45 minutes to reach the falls walking with normal speed.
Spend time, click best of the photographs. There are many cafés but you can go to Shiva Café (I ordered maggi and hot chocolate which was below average in tatse) in case you want to sit for hours, want to have alcohol, etc.
This place will make you fall in love with Mcleodganj!
I spent sometime in the café which is at the starting & at the end of trek. The food was good (I ordered pakoras which were good in taste), the ambience and songs were enjoyable.
The next destination we covered was Bir billing. It is 70 kilometres away from Mcleodganj and takes around 3 hours to reach, crossing Palampur. It has beautiful monasteries, deer park and institute, tea garden to visit.
And, here comes Billing!!
The only reason I went to Billing was Tandem PARAGLIDING.
It has world's second highest and Asia's highest paragliding site which is 8000 feet above the sea level.
I wanted to do it for a long time. And, I finally flew in the sky. It was the best dream of my life with open eyes!
I visited Bir in the end of May and it had coolnees in breeze. It is again a beautiful place having monasteries like Nyingyang Monastery, Choukling Monastery, Tsering Jong Monastery, Deer Institute, Tea garden. Don't miss the monasteries in Bir. They are different from that of Mcleodganj.
While returning, we took a route towards dharmashala. Dharamshala can be covered in a single day.
Being in Dharamshala, the cricket stadium is a must visit!
You can take a halt in dharamshala for one day. For me travelling is not only visiting a place, just to tick off my bucket list but to feel that particular place.
While returning back to our home, we had to cross Bakhra Nangal dam which is situated in Himachal Pradesh. If you are going on this route I would suggest you not to miss visiting this place. You can go for a steamer ride to enjoy the beautiful blue water.
The charge for this ride is 50 rupees per person.
But you have to take appointment and have to coordinate Punjab tourism department before visiting this place. The timings to visit this place is till 3pm.
Being a travller, I would try not to miss any place of visit. My next destination for the same trip is Anandpur Sahib, Ropar, Rupnagar.
It is a peaceful, religious place of sikh community. You can click best of your camera shots in this place.
